What do you think about SR goes to Oneworld with his sister airline Sabena with the benediction of AA.

Maybe AA will buy a portion of SN . In this case AA'll use Sabena just like AA Europe to route to all Europe.

US to LHR just for UK traffic
US to Brussels for the rest of Europe.

THe hub of Brussels is very well located in the heart of wstren Europe .

That will be a good future for Sabena and...SR

The reason SR/SN has not joined Oneworld is because of Qualiflyer. That could change in the upcoming future because Swissair's new CEO said entering Oneworld is high on his list. With AA buying SN, that is a possibility, but right now, AA has its mind on other things such as FA's, and TWA. I think your plan is highly likely though.

And I've said it before. Just what we need. Another European carrier x2.

I think it can be a good choice for Swissair & Sabena... I don't like AA at all but I guess it's gonna be a good choice for all One World partners, specially right now that British Airways is studying to leave the Alliance in order to share Skyteam...

... but the worst part of One World is Iberia!!!
(you can see I hate them...)

There is a rumor that Swissair will join the Oneworld alliance. The future of Sabena is once again not sure. Since BA and AA can't work together AA is looking for a strong European partner. Swissair has good arguments and Zürich is also well located in Europe. Also has Swissair an excellent brand.
Cheers

This is next logical step… after all, AA, SR and SN are codesharing on transatlantic flights. At the same time, SR is codsharing with IB and QS. But I don’t see BA joining Skyteam. The question is what would BA gain by joining them? Any suggestions?

I can confirm AA is interested in SN. They offer a good product and with the pax brougt in by AA they would be back in bussiness. I think during the negociations a member of AA was assisting. Brussels is one of the most interesting hubs. Growing capacity, while FRA CDG AMS LHW and ZUR are saturated, in the center of the EU, NATO, Europarliament etc. And let not forget SN's African network. If I had to choose I'dd Choose SN. They are cheaper better located and have a good network. Swissair is blocked in Zurich ( ecological very strict laws make expansion impossible and the relationship with Germany is not very good for the overflight of Germany into Zurich.) And when we will see the figures in a few days we will see Swissair is not that strong.

BA and AA can't work together? Let's not confuse legal issues with the willingness to work together. I'm sure SR would be welcomed in to oneworld, but I'm not as sure about SN due to their bad finances.

AA and BA don't have the permission between the UK and US government. This is fact. AA is very interested in a partnership with Swissair. Both offers a good product. Maybe Sabena will also join Oneworld, but when the airline always will be in bad situation, maybe there would be no way than a bankruptcy. Latest news are that Ryanair will add a hub on the other Brussel airport. This are not very good news for Sabena.
