My Father just got a card for the ABN AMRO's Preferred Banking Lounge at Schiphol today. I have never heard about such a lounge. I mean a lounge belonging to a Private Bank and only used for it's costumers. The lounge has free internet, food and drinks available and a currency exchange facility and you are aloud to take your family or partner with you. There's even a special area for children.
Has anybody here been in this lounge? On the site of Schiphol there is some news about ABN and a other company being the first to companies that have signed a contract with Schiphol for getting a own (part) lounge for there costumers. Schiphol estimates that there will be a demand of 35.000 travels a year for these company lounges. Are these kind of lounges also available at other airports around the world or is this something new?
Would like to know if anyone knows more about this type of company lounges around the world?

In China I saw lounges for certain customers of Bank of China, China Bank of Communications and China Bank of Agriculture, but I haven't seen banks have their own lounges in Europe.

I heard something a while back about this at work. I work for RBS the company who bought ABN Amro. Seems like they have plans to get more lounges like this around the world. You'll notice like HSBC they have a lot of advertising at airports.
Incidentally, the also have a partnership with Bank of China so the lounges in China make sense.
I'll see what else I can dig up. Last time I went looking I found they'd ordered some 787's for their leasing business

And what about their employees? It´s strange that they open a lounge for their customers. I would open a lounge for my employees (so that they can work while waiting for a flight without having to make sure nobody can see what the´re doing on their laptops).

ABN AMRO preferred banking is a private banking service dedicated to clients whose wealth is above EUR 500K and EUR 1M.
This is not private banking but sligtly inferior, however they offer great advantages sucg as the Preferred Banking lounge for their own clients at AMS and it rocks ! many clients who benefit already from KLM lounges believe that the offer from ABN is better.
I wonder if with the merger, fortis will still offer this product.

Your information about ABN-AMRO/Santander preferred banking is correct, to be a client you need an account of EUR500K to start with and you have dedicated and tailored made service.
Bank/credit card-served business lounges are becoming very popular. For example, in Brazil (GRU) you have dedicated lounges operated by Diners, AmEx, and Mastercard.
