So, yes they are.
Touche! My apologies, I had (erroneously) guessed that a leasing Co wouldn't sell aircraft as opposed to leasing them - this aso without reading the aforementioned article....I'll go sit in the corner with the dunce cap on for a few minutes .

Are we sure the reporter isn't using "selling" as an unintended euphemism for "leasing"?

...
Alafco also said it would lease out four Boeings for 12 years to the Saudi carrier with delivery expected in 2012.
So, I would guess not - ALAFCO originally intended on leasing these birds (12 787s) to Kuwait Airways before that deal fell through, so its more than likely they simply wanted to get rid of something they no longer could fund, maybe?

They are Leasing for 12 years and not selling as per flight's article:
Quote: Saudi Arabian Airlines is to purchase eight Boeing 787-9 aircraft and lease another four from Kuwaiti lessor Aviation Lease and Finance Company (ALAFCO), under a $1.6 billion agreement.
Delivery of the leased aircraft, which will be on 12-year terms, will take place in 2012. The purchased jets will be introduced in 2014-15.
In a statement to the Kuwaiti stock exchange confirming the plan, ALAFCO says the overall value of the deal is $1.6 billion.

Read it again, you have the wrong end of the stick. See:

Again, 8 are being purchased and 4 are being leased. The leased aircraft will be on 12-year terms from 2012, and the purchased aircraft will start in 2014. Fits perfectly.
