Armavia To Get A340-500!

Armenian flag-carrier Armavia is set to acquire an Airbus A340-500 to serve proposed long-range routes.

Managing director Norair Belluyan says the airline intends to sign the purchase contract during the upcoming Farnborough Air Show.

My first thought was that it might be second-hand but the article implies that it's a new build.

By the way, I don't see "a number" of used A345s being available "soon". Then again, I guess four is "a number" and that's how many TG are apparently putting on the market but otherwise I'm not aware of any being offloaded.

If you check previous threads about Armavia here, it is clear that they were willing to get a long range airliner for sometime. They were considering the B767 and A330-200 and studying tech stops in CDG or AMS for their EVN-LAX operations. The A340-500 will be the best choice and will be an attractive option as it will eliminate airport transfers and will shorten the trip by many hours.
