American Airlines and Gulf Air plan a blanket codeshare on their services. The airlines have applied to the US authorities for approval to extend their existing limited agreement on services operating via London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Frankfurt.

If approved, the airlines will be able to use the GF designator code on domestic American Airlines flights and the AA code on internal Gulf Air flights as well as services to third countries.

Thank God! When I saw the title, for a moment I thought AA and GF were planning to start sharing "blankets" as a cost cutting measure....never know what high oil prices may drive airlines to do .... Big grin

Last year, I flew SJC-ORD-DUB-BAH-KHI on AA/GF....they were on two different tickets. The cool thing was not only did I get my luggage at KHI, it was the first one out....first time for me ever in my zillions of flights.. biggrin

I liked GF..that being said, GF is "losing out" to the EK's and EY's of the world and BAH is losing out as a financial hub to DXB and DOH...

That's exactly what I thought too! Blanket A comes in from LAX to LHR, Blanket B from DOH to LHR, they swap at LHR, Blanket B goes to JFK while Blanket A goes to MCT....

It's a logistical nightmare!  Big grin

There are several fare categories when using One World alliance Round the World's tickets where you can use GF flights. This has been possible for several years, so this is a logical move. Anyone think GF could join OW? How much overlap is there between GF and RJ?
