I have "obtained" an edition of EADS internal magazine!
LUCKY ME SEE! I have good contacts!

It keeps saying "oooh x% better than 747" asnd stuff like that, you know what I mean.

Wouldn't it make more sense to compare against the competitior. That is the point of buisiness innit?

Oh dear. I hope SIA didn't get caught up in the comparing to 747 thing!

I assume you're meaning that Airbus is comparing the 380 to 744, not 747X. The reason may be that 744 has well-defined specs, whereas Airbus is not privy to 747X designs, and it's likely even Boeing doesn't know the exact performance of 747X. Rumour is that that design is still in a rather early phase, and the likelyhood that 747X will be built is no longer as large as it was a few months ago.

That's about the height of it, you have to compare to the closest thing on the market, and if Atlas's comments are to be believed, the 747X is still only a 'paper' aircraft.....

Don't forget that QANTAS is to take delivery of some 747-400LR next year so it must be more than a paper plane.

Kiwi dave,
The B747-400LR is NOT the B747X!
The B747-400LR is just a modified B747-400;
the B747X would very likely become the B747-500 if it were ever to be built.

I'm sure the 747X will be built. It is only a little larger than the 744 (430 pax vs. 416), and it has the range of the 777-200LR, 8900nm. I don't know about the 747X Stretch though.

BOTH airplanes, the A380 and B747X ARE concept planes at this point.

Cliperb777, you are correct...but

Airbus Industrie heavily advocates and publicises A380 for several years before official launch last year. They are beginning to get a REAL life plane out of massive blueprint.

They are even planning and coordinating the transport of materials and completed parts to assembly plant as well as giving tenders to contractors to build the 21st Century plane.

Oh...this is going to be very very exciting for aviation industry. Hate it or like it, you are gonna see a real A380 soon. We all are waiting for some orders for B747X coming in. We do not know when Boeing finally builds B747X.

Boeing has no firm orders for B747X at this moment. So it remains on drawing board.

I know that the 747-400LR is a modified 747-400.
