CanJet Airlines, a division of I.M.P. Group Limited, announced today that three new cities are being added to their growing network. Effective early in April, CanJet will add scheduled service to Saint John, NB, Quebec City, PQ and Thunder Bay, ON bringing the total number of cities in their network to nine.
Beginning April 1st, CanJet will inaugurate daily service from Saint John, NB with non-stop flights to both Halifax and Ottawa, and same-plane service to Toronto. Departure times will be 09:30 a.m. from Saint John to Ottawa and Toronto, with return service from Toronto departing at 3:30 p.m. and Ottawa at 4:55 p.m., arriving in Saint John at 7:10 p.m. Evening service to Halifax will depart Saint John at 7:30 p.m., with an early morning arrival from Halifax at 9:00 a.m. Additionally, the Saint John/Halifax flight will provide daily connection services in both directions to St. John’s.
On April 2, CanJet will initiate service from Thunder Bay to both Toronto and Winnipeg. Flights will depart Thunder Bay for Toronto at 10:10 a.m., and arrive from Toronto into Thunder Bay at 8:20 p.m. Daily service to Winnipeg will depart Thunder Bay at 8:50 p.m. with return service departing Winnipeg at 7:40 a.m. and arriving in Thunder Bay at 9:45 a.m.
Service will begin to Quebec City on April 01st with two flights per day offering same plane service to Toronto, a 12:20 p.m. departure via Ottawa and a 3:30 p.m. departure via Montreal. Departures from Toronto to Quebec City will leave at 09:30 a.m. via Ottawa and 12:30 p.m. via Montreal.
In conjunction with this new schedule, effective April 1, flights between Toronto and Halifax will be expanded to three daily non- stops in both directions. Flights will depart Halifax at 7:30 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and 8:40 p.m. From Toronto flights will depart at 7:10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. All of these flights will route to or from St John’s, providing Newfoundland with same aircraft one stop service to/from Toronto, three times daily.
“The network expansion and schedule changes are part of our strategy to continue to build our customer base in Eastern and Central Canada by offering service to more communities,” said Mark Winders, COO, CanJet Airlines. “We are very pleased to be able to bring our no frills product to more communities allowing them to benefit from our every day low unrestricted scheduled airline fares,” he said.
CanJet will be offering special introductory fares for a limited period to encourage travelers in the new markets to experience their every day low fare scheduled service. The first 25 seats on each aircraft serving these new markets will be available for between $49 and $109 for a one-way fare: Quebec- Ottawa $49, Quebec-Toronto $79, Saint John - Ottawa $69, Saint John - Toronto $99, Saint John - Halifax $49, Thunder Bay - Winnipeg and Toronto $79 and Thunder Bay – Montreal $109. These special Introductory fares will be available until April 10 and are available for travel until June 15. They're not getting extra aircraft...
...they're reconfiguring the schedule. I just searched the sked, and from what I found (for a week in July) is that:
YWG-YYZ is simply having a YQT stop put in (1/day)
YHZ-YUL will be 1/day
YHZ-YOW will be 2/day
YOW-YYZ will be 2/day
YUL-YYZ will only be 1/day
YHZ-YYT will be 3/day
YHZ-YYZ will be 2/day
I'm not sure that all the above will be correct, they may update the schedules more, but I think it looks about right.
So, in essence, CanJet is spreading its aircraft to more cities. Not necessarily a bad thing, hopefully they succeed with this new plan.

I don't if you noticed, but CanJet is mostly flying to cities WestJet currently doesn't fly to (Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City, Saint John, Halifax, St. John's). I think flying to non-WestJet destinations is the only way they can survive!

I agree with you Mark, If both airlines compete in the same city (ex. Winnipeg), probably both airlines won't do very well in that city. CanJet will be flying to almost every city in the east, which means WestJet doesn't have anymore cities to chose from unless they are willing to fly to the same city CanJet flies to, which isn't a good idea.
WestJet is focusing on the west, CanJet is focusing on the east, and it will stay like this until one of these airlines go broke!
