The border police at AMS has arrested a Bulgarian who freaked out on a flight from AMS to London. This happened after he had an argument with another passenger. The man became very violent and, after a big effort, could be subdued and tied up by the crew and three pax.

The captain considered the situation so threatening, that he felt it necessary to return to Schiphol which, according to the police spokesman, does not happen very often - there was also commotion and panic among the passengers.

When the aircraft had landed again at AMS and the customs police wanted to arrest the man, he managed to break loose. He subsequently resisted strongly against his arrest and started beating policemen. The police was forced to use pepper spray to finally handcuff the man and take him to prison.

All passengers were taken off the plane, and some of them made statements on what had happened. Eventually the plane managed to leave again around midnight.

The border police takes rthe matter very seriously, the spokesman said. The man is suspected of (and will likely be accused of) endangering a flight. This has a maximum sentence of nine years imprisonment.

Thats scary..!!! Which airline was it ? I wonder how the other passengers on the plane would have reacted with one guy probably hammering the other...!!! And those poor F/As trying to pacify the probably bulky and angry passenger..!!!! sigh

Maybe the airlines could consider have a some-sort of a club-bouncer as flight purser on late evening flights..!!!!! Arbitrate the flight and hold down the troublemaker till the plane lands safely....  silly

Quoting SPR773 (Reply 1):
Which airline was it ?

The article doesn't mention it, but there are many airlines flying AMS-LON (e.g. KL, BA, U2, and others).

He will never get 9 years in jail in The Netherlands!  twocents

If you murder somebody overhere, you'll even get less...
With such a short flighttime (aprox 45 minutes) between AMS-LON, wasn't it the better option to continue the flight and arrest this pax in the UK? That would also give less inconvenience for all the other pax on board.

Flight seems to be BD112 AMS-LHR,
STD 1905 but finally departed at 2322L.

Operated by an Airbus A319 aircraft

Since the incident happened on a British aircraft, presumably UK authorities could request his extradition?
