Hi all!

I was plane watching today at MSP and saw a 747-200 in the old livery take off.... I got curious as to where it might be going, so I checked flightaware when I got home... and this is where it went..

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N...4/history/20080706/2038Z/KMSP/KMSP

40 minutes in the air and back to MSP..

Now the question I have is why might this have been??? training?? flight testing???... and also where does NW still fly the 742???

Thanks for your responses!

Danild

I see them regularly here in Kuwait. Apparently they come here on military charters. I believe there are 2 or 3 of them still flying.

742 are strictly charters now. They do many military charters, checkout NWA9999 's history.

742F are still going too, but I don;t think any got the bowling shoe livery

May have been a maintenance flight, that's what I would guess.

Only two now. Ships 6623 (N623US) and 6624 (N624US).

Would have been ship 6623. I got to ride on it back in May '07 in the closing months of its pax service at NW.  Big grin

Charters only - mostly military, but they still do sports teams too. Most frequently they'll fly MSP-AMS-KWI, and is why the poster of reply 1 has seen them a ton.

This was actually a "live" charter flight. Returned to MSP due to a mechanical, will be departing again tomorrow for the Middle East.

Yes I have seen them here often, but I have only seen N623US here once. N624US comes here more frequently. My drive to and from work everyday goes alongside the runway, so I see the NW planes as well as the UA777 charters and the 767 military charters.

Plenty of C-5's last week though!
