Quote from Economic Times of India -
"...........Singapore Airlines is working on an aggressive expansion plan in India, beginning with doubling its daily flights from New Delhi from September.
At present, the airline operates nine flights a week from Delhi using the Boeing 777-200 aircraft, with a three-class configuration.
The new flights will be called 'Sunrise' services, and will be operated in the morning.
This summer, the airline added two morning flights Friday and Sundays from New Delhi to Singapore.
"Our new Sunrise services will provide connectivity to people travelling to and beyond Singapore to destinations in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand," said Singapore Airlines general manager in India C.W. Foo.
Additionally, Singapore Airlines plans to operate three flights daily from Mumbai; currently, it operates 14 flights per week.
Also on its radar are cities such as Pune.
SilkAir, the subsidiary regional airline of Singapore Airlines, is looking at starting operations from Visakhapatnam, in addition to the daily flights from Kochi, four flights from Thiruvananthapuram and three flights per week from Coimbatore.
"We are also looking at expanding our international destination network and considering exotic locations like Bali and Vietnam," Foo said. "We are talking with Tourism Australia for jointly promoting our flights to five destinations in Australia.".....................
..... This is good news.....way to go SQ....hoping to see you in my hometown Pune as well LH is flying a A319LR....hope new international flights are added....
LH has said that the runway is not sufficient to land an A332/A333 in PNQ. I wonder how much expansion that would allow. I wonder what "upgrade" they have done to the runway....man the IAF monopoly over PNQ should be reduced....to get bigger and better

Quoting SPR773 (Reply 2): Emirates as per some articles is also looking forward at serving Pune with its A330. If only the ILS at Lohegaon can be put ASAP.
May be EK may be able to use PNQ since the hop is only a small flight. LH on the other hand would need to fuel up the A330 a good bit for the haul to Germany - may be that is the reason EK thinks it could start Pune soon.

Quoting Zvezda (Reply 5): From where are SQ getting the aircraft? They have a major capacity shortfall right now.
Silk Air will operate not SQ to Pune
Quoting MIgAiR54 (Reply 7): And if the runway is not enough for a A330, what plane are they going to use?? Silkair A320???????
Of course, and if the Jet airways at one point was doing BOM - SIN on the B738 why not a PNQ - SIN on a A320?? what is wrong with that?
Quoting MIgAiR54 (Reply 7):
Temperature in Pune, high??? Elevation in Pune, 2.000ft???
Temperatures are high only in April and May. But then SQ and its allies operate out of India between 2230 hrs and 0030 hrs. So temperatures will not be an issue. And even my pilot friends say that the EK A330 can make it, as EK has their first preference of slot at 0300 hrs and 0500 hrs. But then this is too close, runway extension is surely required.
