I was just reading the following story, which incidentally was about Air NZ excutives having a pay freeze, and I noticed the Koru behind Rob Fiffe (seemingly on an aircraft tail) was quite different. Is this the new brand standard?

Well spotted but given the low res of the image, I'd say it's a moving piece of animation caught during a reveal as part of a presentation.

Also, given what the article is about, tightening the purse strings and a life or death financial climate, I don't think any of the folks in NZ's SMT are going to cancel a pay rise for the sake of a new Koru iteration right now.

Regards
MH

The logo behind the CEO is the cover of Air NZ's Annual Report - the green reflect Air NZ's efforts to mitigate its environmental impact.

But I thought a new identity was already in the pipeline for earlier this year...?

It's not a new Air NZ logo, the logo on the annual report seems to be an 'f' of finance and symbolizing a rolling coin. Just to play with the logo to make a nice financial report cover...

Yes - The new livery has been in the pipeline since 2006 when the overriding NZ masterbrand was refreshed (the introducton of the dark jade colour and koru texture on collaterial and signage). I understand that a number of concepts were presented in early 2007 however agreement on the new scheme was not forthcoming.

When it eventually does change, the pacific wave will be phased out and the dark teal introduced to align with the updated masterbrand. The old scheme is definately due for a refresh.

I think this design by Oso Blanco on Modified Airliner Photos is excellent.

The Pacific Wave is already in the process of being removed from the B733 fleet as each aircraft has its new cabin installed.

Does anyone know if the A320 and B763 fleet will have their Pacific Waves removed as their new cabin is installed?

ZK-OJO is already waveless. It was repainted like that after SJ was dissolved. If you look at the font on the Holidays shop in downtown Auckland you'll see 'Air New Zealand' banner with the revised font I'm sure we'll see later on the aircraft

I agree - it looks absolutely spectacular. Are they committed to this now?

I'm unsure of where the design phase is at. Air New Zealand's creative agency is Colenso and I assume that the concept design is still in the pipeline (albeit, it would appear that this has been shelved).

Although I've been outside of Air NZ for over a year now, I would not be surprised if the final design is along these lines given its consistancy to the refreshed Air New Zealand brand. I certainly hope so as the existing euro-white scheme (rolled out 1997) has dated quickly.

The significant changes 18 months ago which saw 'Air New Zealand Travelcentre' stores transformed to bright green 'Air New Zealand Holiday's locations have been a successful means to allow Air NZ holidays to compete more effectively with the retail travel brands in New Zealand. The large 'AIR NEW ZEALAND' font that you see on the Holidays store in downtown Auckland applies only to Air NZ holidays related signage and assists foot traffic (especially tourists) attempting to locate the Air New Zealand office for ticket changes etc.
