Apparently AF has received new information from Airbus about the deliveries of their first three A380s in 2009. It will be from summer 2009 until the end of 2009.

http://www.forbes.com/afxnewslimited...eds/afx/2008/07/10/afx5202310.html

Looking forward to learn more about the new schedule for LH. Two AF A380’s have been already built. And LH? Nada, nothing, ne rien...

IIRC AF have said that JFK, YUL, NRT and HKG will be the initial A380 routes,

any confirmation on which one will be first?

YUL should see the AF A380 only for the first flights during the training period.
JFK will be served regularly and then NRT after the delivery of the third aircraft.

Future destinations include PEK, LAX, HKG (?), SIN (?).

Are you sure? I've red many times that YUL will be 380 for AF.

Does it make sense to launch your 380 ops to a given place to then discontinue it after the second frame comes in some weeks after? Imagine SQ dropping SYD 380 ops after introduction of LHR.....

Regarding flight times JFK can be cover with one frame on daily basis as can be YUL.

It makes sense to use it on short flights to train the Crews and "test" the plane. YUL (as well as BOS or JFK) is the shortest of AF's long haul flights with all the maintenance staff they may need.

538 seats seems a bit too many, SIA is 471 seats and Qantas is 450 seats. Are the Business seats on the upper deck 6 or 7 per row? Coach I would expect to be 10 per row on the main deck. Seat Map woul be appreciated.

I doubt that. AF has 3 daily flights YUL-CDG. It would make perfect sense to either consolidate 2 of those flights to one A380 or simply increase capacity if warranted. France is a huge destination for people in Quebec

It just means that as long as Air France have good load factors, their A380's will be one of the most economical airplanes flying, and easily outdoing SQ, and QF.

If I'm not mistaken I believe that Lufthansa will go for 550 Pax while EK's two class configuration will be equipped with more then 600 + seats.  Wink

My guess would be A380 to YUL at begginning to train Crew...

Summer season will probably see 2 A380 to YUL or 1 A380 and 2 B773/B772, and if the B744 stay a while Longer could be in summer an A380 with 1 B744...

For sure from april to october YUL will See the A380 from AF on a regular basis if not daily at least 4-5 times a week...

as of now in summer we see 2 B744 and a B772 daily from AF to YUL that is alot of People that is more than 1000 people per day so A380 will come some testing summer 2009 but regular visitor summer 2010

my 2 cents

What about the Y+ or c38 i think they're calling it ?

Quoting Goodmanr (Reply 14):

Upper deck?

Looking at seat space on SQ A388, upper deck fits 60J seats in SQ's 1-2-1 configuration (16 rows) and 88Y seats (13 rows). Given the fact that J on SQ is around F on AF, it is not hard to calculate that there are some differences in seating and pax comfort.

If AF decides to use its standard 2-3-2 or maybe 2-2-2 for its A388, you have 96-112 seats and room for 88Y seats. But, AF will have 80J seats, thus - more than enough room for Economy Plus. 106 Y on upper deck is not Y, but Y+, C38 or whatever the name is.

When we look at QF's A388, it seats 14 F suites, 72 J, 32 Y+ and 332 Y. It all depends is AF going to have "can of sardines" seating. According to their current seat layouts, there is little doubt that their Y+ is going to be on level as QF.

If my calculation is correct, AF A388 will have following configuration

9 F - Premiere Class
80 J - Affaires Class
106 Y+ - Tempo Plus
343 Y - Tempo

Well, hope that cleared the confusion...but we'll all know more once that EK reveals its FJY configuration.

EK's premium configuration on its early A380s is 14F 76J 399Y total 489 seats. They will have another medium haul 3 class layout with 517 seats and the 2 class ones will be 644 seats or at last count they were.

Concerning the destinations: Is there a chance the A380 will fly "domestic" to PPT, RUN, FDF or PTP?? I would love to fly such a route on the big boy.

To torben :
what you say is quite logical :

They should have foreseen a special Y class only version to kick out the 773 from ORY and fly FDF PTP RUN , NSTP with at least 650 pax on board .

I don t know whether they could fly CDG-LAX_PPT sector loaded with so many
passengers...

No way. Those destinations are low yield routes, moreover, the A380 is far too big for this market.

The Business Class at the upper deck will be 2x2x2.

No way.
MIA is currently served by a Daily flight with B744 offering a Limited Business Class (40 seats) compared to the Economy Class (396 seats).
The yield for AF is low on this route. If ever AF would decide to increase the offer of Premium seats, they would use the B777, but not the A380.

Except from JFK and probably LAX no other US station will see the AF A380 on a regular basis.

But they are using 744s and 77Ws, there will certainly be times when the demand is high enough to fill an A380. As Dennys said, they would need to be in high-densitiy config.

If needed, I'd rather a second frequency certain days on CDG-MIA, rather than a bigger plane.
Actually, AF tried already a few years ago a second frequency on CDG-MIA 4 x Weekly with an A343, but the results were disappointing and this second flight was rapidly axed.

The B744 used on CDG-MIA will be replaced soon by one of the 13 additional new 2 Class config B77W ordered last year and that should start to be delivered to AF next spring.

Agree with UPPERDECKFAN, why using YUL as a destination to train crew and once done discontinue A380 service to YUL, while JFK can do both?

Side question and may be FLYSSC can reply to it, but will AF A380 feature new P, J and Y seats, or shall we see same NEV seats as in the B77W ?
