I will be flying on Korean Air 36 DFW-ICN/747-400 and KE 851 SEL-PEK on June 20 to do my study abroad for the summer in Beijing. I was wondering what to expect from KE and what each of these aircraft are like for this particular airline. I could have flown on UA from SFO, but I opted for the more "exotic" choice in carriers. Also, what are Seoul's and Beijing's airports like? Any comments? Suggestions? This will be my first time on a 777-300 and second time on a 747-400.

The service will be great!! I had a wonderful time with Koean Air, and i will defenately fly them again in a second!! The service is Great, the flight attendants are very nice and attentive!!
I will defanetly rate them 9.9/10. It was just the traffic at Seoul that Killed the flight. When you have been up in the Air for 12.30 Hours and the Air traffic at Seoul is expected to be busy, we were delayed 20mins!! To long!
The 777-300 id a great aircraft. But when you take off you will hear weird Noises coming from it!! But it is nothing to Worry about. Usually when Flying out of Seoul you hit Bad Turbulence. So fasten your seatbelt Tight!! The Plane is soooo long!! And it takes quite along time for the Flight attendants to serve the meals as there are so many passnengers. Make sure you get to the Airport Early so that you can Get a Aisle or Window seat. As the Korean Air flgights are Usually over booked!!
I would Recommened a Aisle seat as the AIR IS MUCH fRESHER THERE!!
Also the configuration id 2-5-2. There are usually 17 Flight attendants on board or there was when i flew with them. Our flight was Jamm packed and we were lucky to get on.
Make sure your Luggage is Under the Limit as they are very strict on this at Seoul.
Sorry but Can't tell you what the airport is like as it does not open till March!! But Kimpo is a dive!!!!!!!!
The Check in people are very much Snobs!!
But above all you will ahve a greatexperience with KE. Make sure you post a Report.
When will you be flying as there Aircrafts are currntly Getting Fitted with PTV's. Three 744 are already finished and are being used on the Paris, JFK and LHR routes. But they di Change. The 777 will be started in June/July.

I have a recent trip report posted in the "Trip Report" forum for my flight on KE. Do a search for Korean Air. My flight was JFK-HKG with stops in ANC and SEL. Very good service indeed. Western pilots and Korean cabin crew. Don't let anyone scare you and tell you KE is dangerous. Chances are they have not even stepped foot in a KE plane. KE are in Skyteam now and if Delta, Air France, and Aeromexico have put their faith in them, then we know they have improved. A couple years ago, during their 'crash years' Delta dropped all codesharing with them until they got their act together...apparently their act is together. Seemed pretty professional on my flight.
Airnewzealand and I are pretty big supporters of KE...take our word for it. They are good, CX may be better service but from the US to Asia, they are about half the cost and lightyears ahead of the service a US carrier could offer.

When i booked my ticket i called Delta as i had hoped to fly with them and connect with another carrier via Japan to get to HK. Once the rep knew i was going to HK she said please hold and when the next person picked up it was Korean Air. Their releationship must be quite good considering they didn't want the business themselves and would've rather had me fly KE. Delta must be getting something out of the alliance even if they aren't codesharing?

You're lucky to experience Beijing and Seoul's (Inchon, actually) new airports. By the time you fly, KE should have a few planes retrofitted for PTVs, but be prepared to do without it just incase. KE has managed to stay clear of any major controversies over the past few years, except for matters that don't pertain to safety of their operations. There were fingers pointed at KE for their reckless handling of de-icing fluids, but it's not something to fret over.
F/As are always nice (and quite young, as well) as they pride themselves for being F/As. Being F/A is one of the most sought after jobs for females in Korea, and you can tell by the quality of people working on KEs flights.
