Back in the early to mid 1990's, QX had a fleet of Do-328's, supposedly replacing the Dash-8-100's/200's. Then, they all went away.

Why did QX get rid of the Do-328's? Were they not reliable or maintainable? Did the demise of Dornier factor in to the disposal of these airplanes? Were the passengers and crew unhappy with them? Operating costs too high?

I managed to get quite a few pictures of them, but never got to fly on them.

I flew on QX's Dornier 328's several times in the 90's. Mostly between PDX and EUG. They were relatively comfortable and quieter than the EMB-120's. There were single seats on the left and two seats on the right if I remember correctly. I believe they were added to the fleet to replace the Metro's. I think they got rid of them because they had a hard time getting parts when mechanics needed them.

I'm leavin on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again....

Yes, they had a heck of a time with mechanical issues on them. Sadly, Dornier is no more. They did look good in QX colors. Dornier really screwed up not supporting them through this. If Dornier had planted themselves with a few reps from Dornier to support QX's teething issues with the 328, I bet we would have seen a much different fleet of QX aircraft.

I flew on the Dornier 328 a few times too. My first experience was on the United Express out of GJT to DEN. We had an engine shutdown shortly after takeoff. I was pretty nervous (new plane to the fleet), but landed fine on one engine. The next day I flew one out of GJT, and really enjoyed the aircraft. It was pretty powerful in terms of its climb and speed. Too bad they are no longer produced. I think if Dornier had stuck with it, they may have been a good contender in this market of aircraft. Especially if the 428 and 728 would have made it out!

Mtx was only part of it. QX got the 328's on the promise of a stretch version from Dornier. The stretch never materialized, and that combined with the mtx issues and poor product support from Dornier sealed the deal.

Horizon was the North American launch customer for the 328 ... and they did look rather nice in QX colors.
