Here's some Standard 8 footage of ZK-NZF arriving at Raratonga airport on 30 June 1974. This particular aircraft went on to have a quite interesting career following its time with Air New Zealand.

It was sold to McDonnell-Douglas in 1976, leased to Cyprus Airways, and was later damaged in a gun battle at Nicosia Airport in 1978 as N99862 - then returned to McDonnell-Douglas for repairs and was later sold to Evergreen International where it became N804EV.

Nice piece of airline history. Shot it yourself?

No, I was seven at the time  cheeky

I was standing beside my father when he shot this scene on a steam-driven camcorder - a 1964 Yamica Model 3! It ran on three penlight batteries and made movies that lasted 6 minutes.

We'd been on vacation in Moorea / Bora Bora. Our flight from Papeete to Raratonga was on another Air New Zealand DC8, ZK-NZA - one of Air New Zealand's first DC8's perhaps?

This footage, though, is of ZK-NZF which carried us from Raratonga to Auckland. My Air New Zealand 'Junior Jet Club Flight Log Book' confirms her registration. Even as a kid, I remember how much I liked the DC8 - they seemed to have bigger windows! Plus, in those days Air New Zealand placed a green plastic Tiki and a couple of postcards on every seat. Very exciting if you were a kid.

I recently nabbed my father's box of old family holiday movie reels, his projector, and a clever little projector to video camera converter thing and am now hunting through for any other pieces of aviation history.

Cool, I will have to do the same with some of my dad's old home movies.

However he was a railfan and not a plane fan so there are lots of cool Canadian Pacific train shots with vintage old diesels.

I also happen to be a railnut as well, so even I can appreciate them.

Yep, they actually were bigger than the Boeings but there were fewer of them.
