Did anybody else who was at the Farnborough Airshow today see the Vickers Vimy aborted takeoff? I was wondering if anybody has any shots of the 'incident', I couldn't see the runway fully as I was behind people. Also, I haven't been able to find any information on the aircraft's condition afterwards, anybody know if it's ok?
For all that are interested: (this is from my point of view, please correct me if I'm wrong) the Vimy wandered off the runway on take-off, presumably due to the wind, and had to abort. The brakes squealed and it looked for a moment as if she might be about to tip over! Luckily, due to what I assume was wonderful piloting, the aircraft managed to stay upright and the announcer calmly announced that he had just aborted take-off.

I too am a bit curious about what happened yesterday. I was at the Lily? pub which was what seemed a few hundred metre's away from the threshold of rwy 24 on the extended centre line and had a pretty good view of the departing A/C. I didn't pay much attention to the Vimy as she was taxiing her way to the rwy and the next thing I heard was the commentator saying that they had aborted the takeoff. When I looked out towards the rwy she was off the edge and on the grass. What I'm not sure of is were they always planning on a grass takeoff (I'm not even sure if Farnborough has a grass rwy) or like the original poster said, did a nice bit of piloting stop this from being a small disaster as they were actually blown off the rwy?
Was a fantastic airshow by the way. My first time going and I certainly hope it won't be my last!
