I was passing through SEA last saturday and saw the University of Oregon themed CR7 sitting there. Whilst waiting another CR7 pulled up with a black D on the tail and body. Is this a new scheme for them? I can find no reference to it on their website and no photos of it on A.net.

While waiting for my wife's Virgin America flight to depart this morning, my son and I saw three of their themed planes depart, including the one you describe. (Why the UW plane couldn't have happened by, I don't know.)
Anyhow, they had Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, and Washington State. I remember seeing one today that seemed similar to what you describe, but I wonder if it was the Oregon State plane.
Glancing at it might look like a D......maybe that's a stretch, but you never know. Otherwise, looking through the database, I couldn't find anything with a D on it.

It may be a loaner from Bombardier while a QX CR7 is going through a major mx check. I have often seen unmarked, all white, CR-7's and Q400's parked at QX gates at PDX. IIRC, Bombardier offers Q400 loaners to QX when they are short aircraft for whatever reason. Can a QX employee extrapolate further?

Did it also say "Horizon" on it? Maybe it was another carrier that we aren't even thinking about. There was a Jazz CRJ today, and they come in different schemes.
After looking through the database, though, nothing in black, and a leaf as a D? Maybe I'll stop while I'm not too far behind.

We never use loaners. We've temp leased aircraft to pick up the summer slack. N290RB is one of the CRJ's in white and we used to have another white tail (I wanna say 609qx or 607qx) which often went between the QX and F9 system (I think its been repainted to QX colors though). As for Q400's, we've had a couple on temporary lease in the past. Off the top of my head, I think one was N539DS, but its been a while and I'm too lazy to look it up.

I believe it was N604QX that was shuttled between F9 and QX. We called it Casper. However, by the end of the QX/F9 contract it was painted in QX colors.

Is it possible that the four college themes will find their ways onto Q400's when the CRJ-700's are gone?

The Oregon theme plane needs to have a Referee hat as it's tail logo

Quoting Bravo1six (Reply 10): It's not like we've got extra Q400s just lying around, y'know
I can imagine. It is such a great aircraft from a passenger perspective. Fast, comfortable and quiet. I'll never forget the day that QX announced that they were going to start flying the Q400 into ACV. I have been a big fan of the Q400 ever since.

So you could get to the national championship and then lose it again? Maybe the refs thought this time it would be wise to give someone else a chance to actually win the national title.

Quoting KPDX (Reply 17): While we are on topic about QX themed CRJ's, once QX retires all their -700's will they possibly move the NW College's liveries to the Q400's?
I don't think anybody knows for sure. The reason it made more economical sense to repaint the CRJs was because they needed new paint anyways as they were former F9 Jetexpress planes. But I think the idea of the college themed planes has been a hit and I hope they keep them going on the Q400s. Would love to see the Q400 in a different livery than that hideous 25th anniversary one. I'm glad QX did something to celebrate their anniversary, but I personally don't think that plane looks anywhere near beautiful. Just my opinion though.
290 has left the fleet and last I knew, was in Europe being outfitted for flying in India. It hasn't been white in a few weeks, having already received a preliminary paint job.

Horizon still has a bunch of Q400s on order ... so it would be very easy for Bombardier to paint them up in special schemes instead of the normal colors
