Hi All,
My girlfriend and I are planning a trip from Frankfurt to Jo'burg. Egypt Air offers cheaper C class flights than direct Lufthansa Y fares! We are booked to travel on Egypt Air FRA --> CAI --> JNB in late October, and return 2 weeks later.
Does anyone have any thoughts on C class service on Egypt Air, comfort of the seats, and the airplane (should be a A330). How is transiting in CAI? Do you have to go through immigration, or is there a transit lounge. As Egypt Air will be a member of Star Alliance at the time of our flights, will we have access to the Lufthansa lounge in Frankfurt. Will Egypt Air move its services in Frankfurt from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1?
Any information on these flights would be greatly appreciated!

Adools,
I enjoyed my two flights on EgyptAir, one on an A330 and one an A320. Both were domestic flights, so I don't know about their long haul product. The 330 had enough room for me to be comfortable, and that's all I really ask. Boarded from air stairs at CAI, which I'd never done on a heavy before. Smooth ride, the flight attendants and pilots were very professional, no complaints on my end.
If you want to use the bathrooms at the airport, be prepared to have some baksheesh (money for tips) or toilet paper with you! There were people in the restroom who had collected all the t.p. and paper towels and would only give it out after tips. On the other hand, that is also how I was able to get my grossly overweight bag on the flight. Baksheesh has its good side

Hi Adools
If I remember rightly, Sam Chui had a trip report with many pics posted not not too long ago about an MS flight in Business or First from somewhere in Asia to CAI. I'm sure if you rummage through the trip report forum long enough you'll find it.

I flew return between CAI and JNB early in June, and found them to be adequate, but not great.
The A330 is a great plane, so in terms of flying, the flight was nice. They're not huge on entertainment - only screens around the cabin, which is sufficient, but the earphones they provided were pathetic. Very poor quality.
In terms of food, it was also okay, but I've had better.
They also don't serve any alcohol on the flight, so don't expect to have a glass of wine with dinner.
Both flights left and arrived at the destinations on time.
So, if you're looking for a great flying experience, you'll be disappointed, but if you're looking to get from point A to point B, they're not too bad.

Two related questions:
1) What is the status of the new Star Alliance terminal at CAI? They were talking about opening it in the fall - is that going to happen?
2) I may need to transfer in CAI from an international flight (MS, LH or LX) to a domestic MS in a few months - in absence of the new terminal, how much of a hassle is it right now?
