Okay who is going to watch the A 380 land? I am definitely going....

Does anyone know which runway it will land on? I am presuming 30R?

Where are you going to be when it lands? I will try to check for an area next to the Airport Expo

Hiya,

Unfortunately I am cought up with a few things and will not be able to be there; however it's game on Friday for the first commercial flight.

Yes, it should go down 30R. Landing is now projected for 17:23 Dubai time.

Don't go to the Airport Expo!!! It is better to go to the other side. If you have GPS or try Google Earth with these coordinates: N25.244463 E55.39062

In other words, if you are coming from Bur Dubai, use the Airport tunnel towards Deira. Keep right and take the first exit. On the lights turn right to Abu Hali road. Continue straight to the first roundabout and take a right on that roundabout. Continue down the road. You will have 30R right in front of you. You can park at the school or on the adjacent parking lot. One way or the other, you will have the 380 about 300 ft. from you.

Don't forget to take pictures and good luck.

Oops... it's not 17:32, but 17:23...my bad. 17:23 is when it comes home...

Well I guess it is a 50:50 chance  biggrin

The best thing to do is to go to the airport about 30 minutes in advance and see on which runway the planes land. At this time of day it should be 30R, but you never know... It's all in the wind.

I worked in Dubai for 9 months, and it was pretty unusual for them to have not switched to 30s by midday.

I wish I was still out there to see this big bird arrive. My preferred spotting place for the afternoons was the waste land between Mirdiff and the Emirates Road.

Hey AA, the 1960s called. They want their planes back!

Just uploaded some pics to the usual sites, some should have them on soon.
As has been said, it was rather hazy so quality is marginal. Still it was great to see it.

Great touchdown shot, you were in the right spot.
The view from EK HQ was partly obscured by the construction, and the distance combined with the haze played its part, so you did the right thing.

So security looked the other way today...? Don't you wish it was like that every day...

Well, the B742 was last built in 1991, so it was exciting indeed. It´ll take longer though for
the A380 to get into this shape, since it´s a bit more expensive I think airlines will look after them better...

Well, that's life, can't have it all, at least I was lucky enough to have been able to be on the ramp a few times, plus we have our iconic 380/Burj shots and today I felt somewhat privileged to stand on the balcony of EK HQ, much better than nothing.

Quoting AKE0404AR (Reply 21):

Well it's surprising how uninterested in these things the large majority of airport staff here is. For most, it's just another job. That said, I didn't see too many people on the ramp, at least as far as I could tell from the distance.

Man, I would love to move there. There is no way any airport in the United States would be as welcoming to people watching such an event. I'm pretty jealous. Maybe in the far-off future Emirates will use one of their A380s and fly to Boston...or at least use a 777. I'd be on it!

PS: It would suck only if those inside would block the views for those outside, like the incident in FRA many years ago with the JT 707, but today, no such problem, and I'm happy for Hannes that he was able to be that close.
