It gets better, but at least they are doing something:
New York Kennedy Travel Policy
Due to baggage system issues at New York Kennedy, American Airlines offers customers the convenience to change their plans. Customers ticketed to travel on AA to or from the areas listed may change flights as shown below:
If you are traveling to, from or through... On the following dates... And your ticket was issued no later than... You may change your reservation to begin travel...
New York Kennedy, NY (JFK) July 30, 2008 July 29, 2008 To, from or through another city served by AA.
One ticketed change is allowed, and no change fee will apply.

Looks like a fairly typical US Airways Baggage Service Office to me...Oh, this is AA? And at the checkin counters? Amazing!
Not to hijack the thread, but why is it that -every- airport I've flown to where US is in whatever terminal I've arrived in, you can tell the location of US baggage service office by the giant pile of suitcases overflowing from their Baggage Servie Office? Sure other airlines occassionally have "extras", but US is the only airline I've seen have that large a volume of "extra" luggage that consistantly.

You know, this can happen to any airline. What matters is how the airline handles it. I was at JFK and there were 3 news vans standing by for the evening broadcast. Do we really need three channels dedicating 15-30 minutes to this story when there more important things at stake? (Like I want to be able to take water through security once again. And a 16 oz toothpaste, just in case.

Quoting LONGisland89 (Reply 9): I watched the AP video and I believe they said that the baggage fees were not charged.
They were not charged. Furthermore most of these were International Bags....so there was no charge anyway.. They only charged Domestic coach passengers to check bags....and if and only if they are not Premium Travelers.
Never mind local news, CNN had a whole analysis last night. Give me a break..slow news day.
