With the 2008 summer Olympic Games around the corner where are all those charters? I know United will charter a B747-400 from ORD to PEK today are they the only one?

Great question. I am curious about NBC. Delta handled the last two
olympics with them but not this year. Does anyone know who is handling them?

NBC and others from the USA and some other countries may be keeping a low profile as to info on their charters for security reasons. Of course, the teams will be on charters, but little has been discussed on that too. Perhaps there are more important issues for the media to cover especially with the political situations of China.

That's my guess. All are keeping low profiles and would rather not "broadcast" their plans to the world. Many of NBC's crew is already in place in Beijing to begin with.
The horses went from AMS (29 Jul) & STN (30 Jul).
The STN flight had the British and, strangely to me, horses from Australia, Japan, US, China(!), NZ & Jamaica - presumably this was following a horse event in the UK.

The US team has been leaving from SFO over the past week or two on commercial flights. Most of the Teams are going to Japan or Singapore before heading to beijng due to pollution and food concerns. It really is no big secret.

The US team has been arriving at a staging area in San Jose, California since last Weds. They are proceeding on regular commercial flights thru SFO, but obviously not all at once. I understand that most of the basketball team left on 7/28 to HKG where they are continuing their training and exhibition matches in Macau.
Historically, SAS has provided a single chartered flight for the Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish teams.
I understand that Beijing Capital Airport has a purpose built arrivals terminal for all Olympics charters. It would be grat to see some of the action thier in the coming week.

The short answer was that there ended up being very very few athlete charters, most athletes travelled on scheduled commercial flights.
It's difficult to tell exactly which flights were athlete charters and which were for other purposes but a few could be identified: Cubana sent an IL-96, Pullmantur Air a B744.
Certainly it was reported widely that the UK team went scheduled on BA (not direct but via training camps).

Plus, whatever charters were used to move people to PEK have probably already arrived and left, to return when the games end - I think in about three weeks? I do know many athletes leave as soon as their respective sports have completed, and do not stick around for the closing ceremonies. The airport will be busier than normal for a few days following the games, but I would not expect it to be hugely so.
