Do you know where they are going to RON it at LAX? Will it be testing out the A380 gates during the day as well?

Do we yet know the arrival runway at LAX? The last A380 tour arrival was on 25L and we were able to get some good shots from the Proud Bird lot. I've been looking for a LAWA news release for this event, but haven't located one yet.

Cheers,
Bob

I am 50/50 on driving down to SFO tomorrow morning to check it out and take some pics. I assume it'll land on the 28's, what's the best spotting area other than by the shoreline behind Elephants bar off of Milbrae road?

Incidentally, I'm home this week and plan to get out there tomorrow. I haven't seen the A380 yet and it should be fun to watch it land. I may not stick around for it to leave again. From what I hear, the only A380 ready gate is A9, which means that it from wherever it lands (presumably on the 28s), it'll come past the DL/NW satellite, then past US/CO satellite and make a right turn towards the gate. The best place to watch it then becomes the Bayfront park right in front of the Westin SFO.

So, let's make a list of people who will be there shall we?

SFO list for Aug 4th :

Norcal7773 (50/50)
UZimmermann (pondering)
Nimish (maybe)
WindowSeat (99% sure)

The link you sent did not work for me, but I did see the Weston Hotel in there......This is a very good spotting location. It is called Water Front Park I believe and it is right off of the Millbrae Ave exit from 101 on Old Bayshore Hwy/Blvd.

Nevermind, the link worked this time......That is the spot!

You better hope your flight is not delayed. With a 1050 arrival for EK, you are going to have to high tail it over to the park. I would just stay in the UA Terminal since it overlooks the 28 arrivals. Taking pictures may be a different story. The windows tend to be a little dirty.

Count me in on this as well!
I plan to be there tomorrow morning around 9am to scope out the area at the Bayfront Park.
Aim is to get some sweet shots of it arriving on the 28L. The rest, I duno maybe the parking structure near the international terminal?

As long as I can familiarize myself with the spotting around SFO I can be ready to catch the whale come in.

I will be the asian shooting Nikon.

Question is, does anybody have an idea with what the demonstration flight will be like and what type of flight plan? How about examples of past demo flights such as its last visit if there was one?

Chance favors the prepared mind.

The last time it flew in to SFO was back in October of 2007. They flew in in the morning and then did gate testing and basically tested out the airport to make sure it could handle the A380. They left the next day around 2:30ish and flew around the SF bay for a while before turning out and heading to wherever they were going next.

It was quite something to watch it takeoff from the rental car lot and right before it left there was a 747-400 the left and it was interesting to compare the noise from the engines of both the 747 and the A380......................... the A380 was much quieter and it might not have been using full power but im not sure.
