UA will be operating a scheduled B767-300 on the following flights to/from MSY in September. The plane is coming to town for the S.F 49ers charter for their game against the Saints. Nice to see UA put the plane in revenue use instead of ferrying it empty.

9/27/08

UA1193 MSY to DEN
807a - 958a

9/28/08

UA1180 ORD to MSY
1150a - 201p

Next trip: MSY-SEA-GEG-SEA-LWS-BOI-PDX-SEA-LAS on AS

When did we get the 9er charters back? I used to do them a few years ago before we lost them to DL, and they were always a lot of fun. It was hard to believe that the food on those flights came from the same ovens as out crew meals!  Wow!  vomit

Well, I'm guessing it's the 9ers charter since those days match.

I remember when the 9ers and the Saints were in the same division I would always look forward to their visit because it meant, at a minimum, that an UA DC10 would show up...sometimes a 742.

Interesting, isn't UA's charter flights normally begins with 9XXX? These flight numbers seem like revenue flights.

Those are revenue flights.

It looks like the 49ers are flying into MSY on the evening of the 26th. So instead of flying an empty ferry flight back from MSY they are replacing the normal Ted flight with the charter aircraft out to DEN. Same holds true for the way back on the 28th. Revenue flight ORD-MSY (in this case, an extra section, so ORD-MSY will have four flights that day) instead of an empty ferry flight and then the plane will fly the team back to SFO after the game.

So what happens to the flight that normally gets that Ted plane from DEN to MSY, is it getting cancelled and passengers put on other flights?

It looks like the evening DEN-MSY Ted on the 26th will not be operating according to the schedules. I guess the passengers will have to take the earlier flight or be re-routed through O'Hare.

The World Champion ( Big grin)New York Football Giants' charter contract is with Continental now and unfortunately they are not playing the Saints in the regular season... would have loved to see a Shockey/Giants reunion game! Talk about a grudge match there, some blood would definitely be spilled.

Playoffs... well, that's another story!

Usually the DC-10. After their first Super Bowl win, they used the same plane and crew for all their flights with the flight number 4949. Bill Walsh (may he RIP) was very superstitious.

When did US lose the Redskins Charters?

This is becoming more common. Carriers equip. sub flts rather than flying empty aircraft. I know that US has been doing this for at least 5 - 6 years. Generally a flight into MSY would be cancelled, months in advance and the outbound flight operates as a revenue flight. The reverse is usually true upon the teams departure.

Later MD

No wonder UA lost the 49ers charters to DL.  duck

I'm surprised the 49ers don't fly to SJC. The 49ers facility is in Santa Clara which is much closer to SJC than SFO.

I guess I should have said "back to the bay area" because I don't know the exact airport. Was assuming SFO.  Wink

They did use SJC with DL; not sure now with UA but guessing SFO.

This should be done more especially with these high fuel prices but not sure it is. DL, who flys the Saints, seems to fly empty in here most of the time from ATL to get the Saints and also when they drop off other teams.

The Texans came in here yesterday on a CO 753 and was wondering did it ferry back empty or was it a revenue flight back?

Cool! That almost makes me look forward to getting bumped back to the 767. Those flights were among some of the highlights of my career... Looks like JFK guys are flying it though.
