The latest in a fairly consistent string of upgrades to capacity in MSY included one additional nonstop to ATL eff. 10/1 (for a total of 9), one M88 to 738 upgrade on 10/1 which will then be upgraded to 757 on 11/3. All of these recent capacity increases have nearly made up for the loss of XE in terms of daily seats. Add in an additional WN flight to MCO starting in October as well as the increase in seats from UA come this fall plus a NW CR9-to-D95 upgrade on one of the MEM flights and the airport will actually come out slightly ahead in terms of daily seats as to what it has now.
Here is the updated DL departure schedule from MSY effective October 1st:

Nice to see DL continue to climb in MSY. I suppose the days of the widebodies domestically are pretty much gone, but any kind of capacity increase is welcome- especially for a place like MSY, which has taken such a huge hit in airline service since Katrina in addition to the cutbacks being felt everywhere else.
Nice to see DL mainline back flying to NYC too - though I'm surprised still not to see a JFK route. And also to see the Barbie-Jungle-Jet ERJ on CVG route.
Looking fwd to my next visit back to MSY this fall- always a great time in a great city.

Quoting TDubJFK (Reply 1): I suppose the days of the widebodies domestically are pretty much gone
Yeah, a typical fall schedule pre-Katrina would have seen several 767's...those were always a nice sight.
Quoting TDubJFK (Reply 1): Nice to see DL mainline back flying to NYC too
Agreed. Nice to see DL back in the market and successful. Of course they flew MSY-NYC for years...with service at one time to all three airports. Even though I would rather see 1x to JFK and 1x to LGA, beggers cannot be choosers nowadays.

I guess that was expected with the CVG pullback....nice to see a CR7 thrown in the mix though.

Quoting Cubsrule (Reply 3): How does the LAX flight do? It sure would be nice to see it go daily.
Well, it goes back and forth between daily and 4-5x weekly at various points in the year. I suppose it holds it own. It has outlasted LAX-RDU/CMH/BDL/JAX and others so it must be doing well enough to keep around. I do know that it sees strong F demand from people in Hollywood who are going back and forth between L.A and New Orleans for movie production.

Remember, though, that RDU, CMH, BDL, and JAX are all transcons whereas MSY is midhaul.. so DL isn't spending as much fuel or utilizing an aircraft as long on a MSY run as they are on the CMH and East Coast destinations..

Great news! I've never been to MSY but I think it would be a really cool place to go visit. I'm sure there's plenty to do there, but does anyone have any suggestions for specific things to see/do? Thanks!

Not to high jack the thread, but ATL-GPT gets a capacity increase as well.
Starting in Sept. the route will go....
2x MD88
5x CR7
On Random days throughout the month of September it goes to
3x MD88
4x CR7
On 10/14 the second MD88 will be replaced by a 738. I believe this will be the first time that Delta sends a scheduled 738 into GPT.
Again, not trying to high jack the thread, but I figured I'd share the increase in capacity from a neighboring Gulf Region Airport.

Walk around the French Quarter and along the riverfront, ride on the Steamboat Natchez, ride the Streetcar to City Park and Uptown to visit the area around Tulane and Loyola University, really good zoo/aquarium, lots of art galleries and museums if you're into that sort of thing (WW2 museum is awesome), take an airboat ride in the swamps, awesome nightlife, casinos, etc...plenty of things to do...would suggest to check out this sight for many more ideas:

Not a hijack at all!
MSY-GPT-MOB really is one big regional market in any case...tons of people commute back and forth between all three cities everyday.

Looks like fun, thanks for the info! I think I may have to round up a few buddies from school and head down there sometime this fall. Thanks again!

There is also (new):
Audubon Institute's new Insect Museum on Canal Street
Southern Food and Beverage Museum in the Riverwalk
Magazine Street with it's shops (clothing, homewares) restaurants ... and barely a national chain store on the street... it's about 3 miles of funky fun.
