Last june Air Canada was supposed to start a daily nonstop service from YVR to MEX using A319 and without any notice they never started the service.

Do anyone know what happened?

The aircraft assigned to the Vancouver-Mexico route were re-assigned to other routes that were deemed more profitable.

It would be nice if Mexicana decided to open up that route. It would add another Canadian destination to Mexicana's route map. However, they don't have the correct plane to do it, unless they get 5th freedom rights. Philippine Airlines just got 5th freedom rights from SFO to YVR. Maybe if they asked for 5th freedom rights from LAX to YVR. It would be a good idea, but the market is already filled up by all the other airlines.

What do you mean by not having the correct plane?

The correct plane?

I think the 757 is too big for the Mexico-Vancouver route. Air Canada was planning to use A319's which are small and have the range to offer a daily flight. I don't know if the A320's can make it with a full payload. Thats why I mentioned that if Mexicana makes a stop somewhere in the U.S. then they can make it with an A320. But I think that the whole point in opening a nonstop route is to make it easier for the business travelers to travel quick and conveniently. You can already connect at LAX to Vancouver.

But then again for those who interested flying that route, Japan Airlines offers 747-300 service twice weekly....  Big grin Not bad!

MEX-YVR with an A320 stopping lets say at MZT would be a very good idea, as Mexican beaches are very warm in winter.
