Gemini Shut Down?

There is a posting on another forum that Gemini Air Cargo shut down on 8-11 and will go into Chapter 7 (liquidation). Their website is still active but the flight schedule has been pulled. Does anyone have further info.? Where are the planes and are any crew stranded overseas? Not a surprise, really, but still a sad event if true.

I haven't heard anything official yet. Writing has been on the wall for them shutting down for awhile. I heard the last class or two at World was all ex-Gemini guys.

I don't think so, but I certainly hope not. I was just with a couple of pilots the other day, they were flying N604GC from OPF to ROW. They didn't appear as if the company were shutting down, but it is clear the DC-10's are leaving.

Cody, as there have been 3 DC-10 ferry flights to ROW over the past 6 days, can you confirm that N604GC OPF-ROW was the flight on the 9th of August, Saturday?

Anyone else that can tie-up the 2 MIA-ROW DC-10 ferries by reg?

Per a previous post, some date in August was to be a time they needed to secure new financing and also be offered for auction to potential new owners in BK court.

Suppose it could be that no one stepped forward and the interim financing they were operating under expired leading to a shutdown.

Thank you A340Spottter. Yes, I can confirm that. N601GC is also sitting at OPF, but I was told it will not leave.

FWIW, N702GC (MD-11) has been sitting in the PEMCO hangar at TPA for the last few weeks undergoing some sort of mx. It was still there when I flew out on the 7th.

Don't know about Gemini-people, but I was in a World class a couple of months ago and it was almost exclusively ATA-people.

Gemini's flight schedule on their website shows three planned airplane movements on 8-14 to Goodyear (GYR). Two are coming from Belgium and one from Miami. These would be the MD-11s that have been working Belgium into Africa and Miami into S. America. It has also been posted elsewhere that the internal pilot communications network has confirmed the shutdown.

Now we can all start the guessing who will be getting their airplanes.

The company itself isn't saying anything but they have filed Ch. 7 and closed doors, they couldn't get last minute financing. My only source are pilots on another board.

Real sad news. I remember seeing GR DC-10's parked at ANC in the early 90's. I was like, hey, someone named a cargo airline after my astrological sign. If this news is true, my thoughts are with Gemini employees who have lost their jobs.

I'm leavin on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again....

The MD-11s as well, from skyliner.de:

MD-11F N705GC Gemini Air Cargo ferried 14aug08 OST-SWF-GYR for storage
MD-11F N703GC Gemini Air Cargo in svc/ferried 14aug08 RUH-BRU-SWF-GYR for storage
MD-11F N701GC Gemini Air Cargo ferried 13aug08 MIA-GYR for storage

The Gemini DC10 at Opa Locka that was ferried to GYR was N604GC, likely the one that was there for months which seemed to have escaped the scrap man to be used perhaps as a stand-by aircraft or likely for spares eventually. There was another one parked at Miami for weeks that seemed stored.

All indications are the airline has shut down. Will they be back?
