This is great news for BZN! 6 airlines serving a town of about 35,000 is incredible. I'm glad Allegiant even surprises you (FATFlyer)  Smile

Well yes this flight would serve 35,000+ (probably more like 50,000 incl surrounding areas) to the gambling of LAS.

But it may also serve the skiing ambitions of the 1.5 million people of LAS? Also, BZN has a lot of attractions during the summer too. Especially compared to hellish LAS, whose residents might want to hit a dude ranch or a mountain hike up in Bozeman. Point is, Bozeman is itself a travel destination, unlike some other Allegiant cities. So maybe that i part of this.

These guys are really amazing: 4 cities in MT, 3 in ND. What is next? More Wyoming or Idaho destinations?

Yep and it gets noticed by others in the industry. I just read this quote in an article about Allegiant published today:

"US Airways President Scott Kirby, whose company by the end of the year will have cut nearly half of its flights to Las Vegas, recently said he told executives to study Allegiant's financial reports and listen to the company's conference calls with airline stock analysts."

So people are noticing that whatever Allegiant is doing works and translates into profits.

Still amazing IMHO that someone isn't challenging WN on BOI-LAS.

Could FCA be next? When I worked for DL in FCA LAS was one of our biggest destinations, and not cheap by any means.

The only other Idaho location I see as being viable for them would be Lewiston (LWS). City of 35,000 or so, and add Clarkston,WA across river as well as Pullman,WA and Moscow,ID (both with good college crowds), total about 120,000 folks that may prefer flying out of LWS as opposed to driving up to GEG. But not too sure of the sustainability of such a venture.

I think Pocatello,ID (PIH) would have been a good choice if they did not serve IDA already. Only 50 miles apart ,but an additional 50,000 people. Not sure if they'd bother perhaps cutting into IDA loads. Plus, a lot of Pocatello folks just drive to SLC anyway. Would be nice to see more than SkyWest at PIH though.

As for anyone else competing with WN BOI-LAS, with two daily nonstops flights (and 3 on Sat), plus various connections from LAS, I don't see anyone else having the draw to compete effectively on that. It will be nice to have the early AM nonstop beginning in Fall switching from the 9 or 10:00am flight.

It would be kind of nice to see G4 expand into the ski-service ops that various other carriers are into with ski resorts and such. Sun Valley Co. always has issues with Friedman Airport in Hailey and its limited potential until a new field is built sometime. I see that the QX route to OAK is off, and LAX not sure about. It would be good to see them hook up with G4 and offer bi weekly flights into Twin Falls (TWF) from various points to help increase skier visits.

Anyway, good to see Allegiant Air working well at the smaller locales!!

G4 is not really competing with any airlines out there they are a hotel package company that happens to have airplanes.

I doubt they can challenge anyone in any sense they rarely fly any route with enough frequency to make a difference. Kirby has lost if he thinks that G4 is taking traffic .

They just did with BZN and Big Sky  Smile

TWF might work as you said with the Sun Valley draw as well.

You mean like at Reno?  Wink See the bottom left of the page at:

I don't think Kirby thinks they are taking traffic, besides US is reducing at LAS.

I think Kirby wants the execs to pay attention to (and learn from) an airline that is making money and growing.

Well the only pax that'd benefit are from BLI, so that couldn't be that many. Even if you include the BC pax.

With service to GJT, I'd think maybe they could hook up with resorts that aren't as big or are not paying airlines to serve EGE, GUC, etc.

Well, I wasn't necessarily meaning G4...but you'd think someone would throw a flight or two out there, like US maybe? Then again, no one challenges US on the PHX route either.

Congrats to Allegiant for yet another expansion into the hinterlands! And to Bozeman for gaining more air service... Amazing, really.
