This is not an ETOPS pro or con thread, but more of a geography question.

With ETOPS slowly getting longer and longer (180 minutes, 240 minutes, etc), what is the one spot on the planet that would be the farthest from land, and what would the flying time be?

Put another way, would there be any need for 500 minutes ETOPS?

Is there anywhere in the world that an airport (or at least land) cannot be reached from in say 500 minutes?

Matt understand that ETOPS does not mean over water only. Many routes flown over land need to be flown using ETOPS rules.

Our pilots flying EWR-HGK are over land most of the flight, however there are no airports on the North Pole.

Now to answer your question, the last map I saw from Boeing looked like the 207min rule was going to fill in most of the globe used for Airline traffic. Maybe someone else here would have that Boeing map, or a link to it.
