Just got in From a BA flight LHR to SYD

One of my bags made it with the other one apparantly stuck at LHR! (go figure!)

I asked about spending money to buy toiletries and underwear, t shirts, etc and they said I get nothing even though it will be about 36 hours before I get my case (best case)

Is this true? I thought airlines gave vouchers to buy stuff in these circumtances? All I got was a lousy white t shirt and some small toiletries - like a mini toothpaste, mouthwash in a zip packet.....

Just curious as when my mom flew SQ I think they gave her £100 for the same story

BA gave me £100 too at SFO.in August 2006.
Save all your receipts and they will usually reimburse you for essentials. I used the £100 and claimed off my travel insurance too.
My bag was delivered 24 hours later so wasn't too bad

I do baggage services for BA and we give out those toiletery kits aswell, the BA ones arnt great but they will get you out of a hole, IB have the best toiletery kits in my opinion.

But to answer your question some airlines will give you some money for expences BA will normaly give you £30 at some airports if they can, but LEGALLY you are not entitled to anything.

EgyptAir/KLM did this to me once while flying AMS-CAI-BOM. Both airlines said we will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses. I bought two shirts a pair of pants. I'm still waiting for my check.

Did I mention this happened in 2005?

I'll have a word with the baggage team tomorrow but i was under the impression that they would reimburse you for essentials as in what you need to get by. So dont go buying any Armani suits or anything like that  Smile

I got a free set of golf clubs. BA delivered them to my apartment along with my bag.

Their owner did want them back, however.  Sad

Yup it came the next day, so didnt end up buying anything. Although im Australian I dont live in Sydney anymore so was just back for a visit!

So, as for my flight it was direct LHR SYD on BA9 I noticed another woman on my flight also only got one of her two bags - which seems very strange to me that one makes it and the other doesn't. Especially since I chcked in early - 2.5 hours before and there was no transfer , nor any T5 'stuff'  Smile

Yes, you're supposed to get compensation up to a certain amount. Keep your receipts, so you can talk to BA to see if you can get a reimbursement for the stuff that you bought. If you don't get it back at all within 2-3 months, you can speak to a customer service rep to begin filing a real lost baggage report, in which BA can reward you (I believe) $3000.

Note that after you file your bag report, you shouldn't talk to the people at the airport, as that would be futile. Any sort of real money will come from corporate.

BA once mislaid one of my bags transferring in LHR, 2.5 hour layover, plus 1 hour delay due to a 747 having problems and they couldn't get ours to the gate.

When I arrived at SFO they were telling a number of people about their bags. Waited for my second bag for 30 minutes and it turned out they mislaid that one in SFO ... it was sent to Cargo.

Took them 3 days to get my bags to me.

Don't ask me why but it doesn't seem to be a consistent policy on BA, look what happened to me earlier this year,

Doesn't the Warsaw/Monteral Convention which dictates the liability of the airline in the case of missing/delayed baggage apply here?

If I'm not completely mistaken the maximum liability for lost baggage is SDR 1000 and is based on a kg-rate (which I can not remember) of the baggage.
