This evening I stopped by Castle Island in South Boston for a snack and saw a Aeorflot and JAL airline land at BOS. Why:

Diversions from JFK I guess, was listening in on JFK tower earlier & it sounded like they had some pretty rough weather/thunderstorms going on.

yes they are diversions, very bad weather over JFK, most flights are delayed between 2-4 hours. i was listening to the tower as well nd numerous flight arr/dep when routes in/out arnt closed were told off strong wind-shear warnigs. not the best afternoon to be a JFK controller by the sounds of things!

Starting around 1700 local, we had a line of thunderstorms roll through the NY metro area. Now, more than 4 hours later, it's still raining. Many times you see those guys divert to Stewart (SWF), but with the size of the storm front that came through, I imagine they got hit pretty good up there also. Not a good night for flying in the New York area  Sad

Make's sense, Thanks for the replies. It was cool to see something different for once ~ for we don't get a huge variaty of foreign carriers up here. Just the typical large airlines from europe.

This has been a tremendously unstable Summer up here in the Northeast, weatherwise. In all the years that I have lived up here (~20), I have never seen a Summer like this. Since June we have had severe thunderstorm alerts nearly every other day.

We have another line of storms coming through NYC again this evening, began late afternoon, and I'm still getting thunderstorms at 8:30pm - they even issued a tornado watch for Manhattan & The Bronx around 5:30pm today  Wow!

We got hammered pretty hard the past two nights. Some interesting weather as of recently. Expect more of these in the weeks ahead.
