Delta just upgraded ATL-GIG during the busy IATA summer to a 767-400 from a 767-300 and now just confirm it will upgrade again the route to a 767-400 during the busy (very) IATA winter, where Brazilians are looking to visit the US and a lot of US citizens love to go visit Brazil.

The flights will continue almost on same schedule as DL60/61 (DL60 will return a little earlier) and will be a confirmation that Brazilian Routes out of ATL (GIG and GRU) are among the best routes DL have, as they need to invest 4 Boeing 767-400 to perform the two routes.

Effective Oct 25 to March 31
DL61 ATL 2040 GIG 0815 - B764
DL60 GIG 2130 ATL 0530 - B764

Probably the upgrade will continue even on low season given the high demand for this route.

Felipe, considering this, how are the chances of they upgrading the service again to a 772?? Or they have to use them were they need it's legs?

Not only ATL-GIG, but also ATL-SCL will be upgraded during the next winter season! Also Daily service, looks like the only 767-300s on deep South America will be Atlanta-Buenos Aires and New York-Sao Paulo services.
Good to see South America doing well !

I fly this route very often and it's always hard to get a BE Seat on the last week. DOT reports shows very good numbers year-round for both passengers and cargo, and the upgrade (again) is another confirmation.
Fares to/from Brazil helps a lot... for January we wont find GIG-ATL-MCO for less than US$ 1,800 R/T (Economy!).

AFAIK the largest A/C ATL-GIG has gotten is a 764. The only South American 777 route was 2x weekly ATL-GRU.

You're right! But next week will be the opposite (5x 764 + 2x 763), and the 777 will be back on September while 764 continue 5x weekly and GIG got the 764 on such remaining days (2x weekly).

Delta's original plan was that the 764s that were converted from domestic to int'l service would be used to "follow the sun" which really means "follow the revenue". They will be used from ATL to the northern hemisphere (Europe) during the US summer and to the southern hemisphere (South America) during the US winter.

It is worth noting S. American routes will likely be upgraded again by next summer when NW's 333s (300 seats), 332s (240 seats) and 744s (400 seats) are available for use to South America.

What is going to backfill the routes you take those planes from, keeping in mind you need two aircraft for every deep South American long haul?

And seems that season after season they are using more and more this way. Next season will see half of BE planes heading South American routes.

The A332 is almost the same size of the B764, but the B744 and the A333 to South America on IATA winter could be a wise use of aircraft if the routes they are deployed now are not that strong at such time.

767-323ERs.

Some people think the 764s will be based at MSP and DTW but I think all 764s will stay Atlanta based. The reason for this is if JFK does even get a 764 base (with 20+ TATL flights a day) then I don't think that DTW or MSP (which both have around 5 TATL flights a day) will get a 764 base. I think we could see something like ATL-CDG-DTW-CDG-ATL and ATL-AMS-MSP-AMS-ATL. Thats just me though.

Just checked DL's timetable and have I doubt. It states the following ATL-Brazil services:

ATL-GIG

DL211 Daily 764 (Discontinued. Aug14)
DL211 2x weekly 764 (eff. Aug17)
DL61 5x weekly 763 (eff. Aug15)

ATL-GRU

DL145 3x weekly 763 (Disc. Aug15)
DL205 2x weekly 763 (eff. Aug17- Aug26) - Changes to 772 on Aug26
DL105 Daily 763 (Disc. Aug14)
DL105 Daily 764 (eff. Aug15)

So, we have:

ATL-GIG 2x 764, 5x 763 weekly
ATL-GRU 2x weekly 772
ATL-GRU daily 764

Am I right?

So, If I not wrong, GIG was actually dowgraded from daily 764 to 2x weely 764 + 5x weekly 763.

So maybe I misunderstand. The threath is talking about a period when the situation I mentioned above is going to be changed again, right this time? So, eff. Oct25 ATl-GIG daily 764 again, replacing 2x 764, 5x 763 service that starts Aug15.

GRU is not losing anything, JJ8080.

Till June 15 - DL runs ATL-GRU 2x 772 + 5x 764 (ATL-GIG 2x 764 + 5x 763)
During the period from June 15 to August 15 they run: 2x 772 + 10x 763 = 7 overnight + 5 extra daylights (GIG got daily 764)
After August 15 till September 30 - Back to Daily flight means 2x 772 + 5x 764 (GIG 2x 764 + 5x 763)
October 1st - Daily 764 (GIG back to Daily 763)
October 25th - GIG become Daily 764
