Azul's employees are already being trained by Embraer, in order to be prepared for company's 'takeoff" in Jan2009. Now, 14 maintenance technicians went for a 40 day period of training on Embraer's HQ, where there are also 13 Azul's F/As.
In addition, 10 pilots have already conclued the theoretical classes at Embraer, and are now training at flight simulators in Orlando-USA.
Azul's first E195 should be delivered in the upcoming months ir order the airline to start flying January/2009. Talking yesterday with one of Azul's high level managers I was told that, despite some options already being taking in consideration, as market already expected, no routes have been decided yet.

Nice! I can't wait to see how the airline will turn up! How many E195s did they purchase?
Blue or should I say Azul

I'm also very excited. They ordered 76 frames, and should starup in early 2009 with 3 frames. They plan on having 10 E95s by the end of 2009. The planes will be configured with 118Y.
As stated by Agencia Estado, the first E95, expected to early Sept., will make certification flights between CWB, VCP and SDU. This may be a clue to their destinations. I'm copying the link: http://www.ae.com.br/institucional/ultimas/2008/ago/14/1100.htm

Cool thanks for the info. I don't get much data on it up here but I'm just as excited as you! Whenever you see something on pm me or post it on the forum.
Thanks

By the looks of it, Azul will have their dry-lease E190 ready witin a few days as well.

Does Embraer have a facility there or are they being trained through someone else's simulators?

Quoting JJ8080 (Reply 7): Sorry. I can't give you precise info, but IIRC, they have such facility in the US since Jetblue is quite a big costumer.
Not a problem at all. I was almost thinking they were in our (B6's) training facility since we have the sims there. I'll ask one of the Azul people that is here prepping the dry-lease aircraft, they'll know. Thanks anyway!

Quoting C010T3 (Reply 9): Do you know how many E90s they're taking?
They are getting Jetblue's E90s??? Didn't know about that. Why for?

I only saw 1 being prepped. My assumption is to be prepared if there is a delay on the assembly line, possibly training, but I do not know the specifics as to why they are leasing the a/c. The aircraft left the hangar this morning though, maybe doing some testing.

The main reason is airline certification. They need at least a frame for all the testing and governmental approval. I just asked because I wanted to make sure that they are not going beyond that. I thought it was possible that they could have signed a sweet deal with B6. Neeleman wants Azul to start up with a larger fleet and grow faster, which would enable B6 to reduce fleet growth without losing money in the operation.

Quoting Hardiwv (Reply 13): I smell some business here...Azul makes a hub in VCP and INFRAERO opens up SDU for flights. Business as usual in Brazil.
Agree, this is very suggestive. CGH characteristics would certainly require some certification, am I wrong?

Breaking News!
First E-Jet for Azul arrived Brazil today... It's ex-JetBlue bird N288JB (now PR-AZL), E-190, flew MCO-BVB this mouring and right now is flying BVB-POA to VEM maintanence center. There are doubts about what the plane is for, cause the initial plans of the airline were to fly all-E95 fleet. People are wondering that maybe the plane is for certification.

Yes.. Let's wait and see.... But, even I don't liking the idea of them starting up with used aircrafts, this would be a nice alternative to JetBlue necessity to reduce it's fleet, an in addition, it would make Azul able to grow faster.

Both of the E-190s are being leased to Azul for certification and training. I have also been told that Neeleman has got many mx guys from JFK to leave JetBlue and go to Azul. We are now going to be even shorter staffed for mx guys in the system. Not sure how many have gone but makes sense that he would offer jetblue mx guys jobs at Azul since a lot of the mx guys on the east coast are E-170 through E-195 certified.
