Seeing as both BMI and Roots Air A330's will most likely pop up on this site at around the same time, which do you think will attract more viewers?

Although BD have many fans and the a/c will be in the new livery, I think Roots Air will attrach more veiwers because they're totally new. However I know which I'll be most interested in (and they aint Canadian!).

But having now visited the Roots Air website, I realise that the livery will be dreadfull (if anything like the website), so BD might get more veiwers.

Jamie.
ps. Does anyone know how many BD a/c have been painted into the new colours as I thought only 2 were, but today I saw 3 new livery jets at LHR (2 A320 & 1 B735)? Also, does anyone know when the 1st A321 & Fokker 100s will be repainted?

I dont think that there is much wrong with the web site of Roots air. I think that they could use a different paint Job on the planes though. they say that they want to be a totally differnent airline in regards to service and all why not make the planes really stand out of the croud. But no they had to go along with the rest of the airlines in BORING white and I think that the tail is going to have an orange colour. Oh well we shall see.

Will their 330's have PVT's and what engine choice did they go with. I am thinking PW4068?

You are right about the engine's they went with the PW's to stay common with the existing skyservice fleet.

Also Each plane will have a different tail colour. I think there are 4 or 5 versions.

RootsAir will acutally have different sided tails. One side will contain the logo and the other side will contain something else. Initially the livery was going to have different coloured tails in bright green, blue, purple, red. Since the initial conception-Skyservice decided to change that and acquired a more "elegant" look that has consistency (remember the BA livery situation?)They have not gone along with the rest of the airlines and there is no orange in the tails. They will have 3 cabin classes - Gold, Silver and Bronze. Gold class has leather seats. The 330's will not arrive until April however the 320's will be ready for the launch date. I am operating as a crewmember on Friday March 30 to YVR. Slawko, ususally, you are very informative about things and I like reading your posts however, by reading you posts and opinions on RootsAir, I tend to think you are speculating a little. Just because you have not seen the new planes going into the SSV or Hangar 8 does not mean they are not ready. Maybe the new planes have not arrived yet...but they are coming , trust me! Also, do you have an MOT pass that permits you access to the "Rootsair lounge" at terminal 3? Just curious because one of your postings stated that you doubted the lounge would be ready. Just curious.

HEHE sorry if I came accross a bit strong....Actually I like the ROOTS idea and I can't wait to fly on them (Hope you have interline agreements with us) I do work at YYZ and so yes I have had a look at the lounge every once in a while when the door is open, and although it is not finished it does look very nice...What I meant about not seeing the planes was that like i said above, I am there ever day and I usually look out for that kind of stuff...like the Last MD11 ever built, and when AC snuck the first 737 painted in their colours between the hangars near the Alpha Terminal. Just curious, but what is the new tail design?? I understand if you are not permitted to say...Just thought I would ask  Smile See ya...maybe around T3  Smile

Another question...will you guys be using the offices around the corner from the lounge between the bookstore and Tim's or are they somewhere else??
Also why don;t you get your own username? It was quite odd looking at the profile info and seeing that you were a 66-75 year old male...until I read the other info part  Smile

They only have 3 at the moment, bmi's latest two A320's wear the new livery G-MIDV and G-MIDU and the B735 G-BVZH. The next two A320's MIDT and MIDS both due in March are probably the next to wear the livery. The Fokker 100's and 70's wont be repainted as at the end of the lease their due for disposal.

British Midland Commuter has been renamed British Midland Regional and these aircraft are apparently going to wear a half old and half new livery.

Slawko,

Info from "Commercial Jet Aircraft Census by Bill Harms" No other A320's listed at this time for Roots Air. Also checked the A330 list, but nothing yet.

Actually, one of our current aircraft TDC has gone offline and is being re-confiured. I can ask what the registration of the other 2 will be. Out of the 3 A-330's, one is the "sister" aircraft to CF-BUS and I believe it is coming from LTU, I thought the other 2 were new, however again, I will find out. And Slawko, thanks. I have tried to register under my own name, but, it keeps rejecting the entry so I use my fathers id to make postings. As for the offices, I know some are at T-3. The crew briefing room will be there to (great!) Currently, our crew briefing room is at the old hangar and we are bussed airside to the aircrafts. Actually, SSV/RootsAir will have several offices. An We also have a ful training facility on Bath Road north on Airport road. It is in use already. Another office will be over at Hangar 8 (northend). You should cruise over there one day. It is being built currently, but it will facilitate 330's. As you may be aware the current SSV hangar, is being torn down due to GTAA construction and the building of the new runway. We are having a launch party on March 25th, I believe. Will keep you posted!

I was reading earlier that Roots was going to have a 727. Is there still going to be on? Just because everyone is talking about the Airbusses and no talk of a single boeing.

Thanks,

G

Hi G
Well. that' a good question. All SSV/RootsAir f/a's are scheduled in for 727 training next month. As you know already SSV also owns Sporthawk International, which is the official carrier of the Toronto Raptors (despite A/C's livery of the Raptors), Ottaw Senators, Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils ect. The aircraft that is used is a B-727. Given this fact, the 727 is superbly maintained (imagine the insurance with these teams) Currently the Sporthawk crew is designated. I think there about 15 of us. As well as being Sporthawk we are also 320/330 qualified. Some prefer Sporthawk, but I prefer majority 330 when I can. (that's another story, I miss CF-BUS and can't wait till she gets back) The other day I had RootsAir service training and I asked them why all the f/a's are getting crosstrained -- Is Roots using the 727? The answer that was given to me was that a 727 will be used ONLY in a case where there may be a delay and no other aircraft is available. It will be treated as a supplemental aircraft, and could be used for positioning crews. Apparentlky, if (and only if) it is used for Roots it will be luxuriously configured to accommodate the Gold/Silver and Bronze classes. BUT...even so I hope that it is only used as a supplement. It's not a bad idea if it is only used as such. Cheers!

Thanks R347216!

Slawko did mention in another t posting that Roots owned 2 B727's. I did think I read somewhere else that the 727's were going to be used on the YYZ-Montreal flights? As the launch dates are closing in, I'm just curious,

Thanks though,

G

I knows that TDC is already in the process of being re-configured. I saw the e-mail of the fwd galley. Also, It takes 48 hours to re-paint the aircraft. There will be 126 seats on the A-320. Just checked the bid sheets for April, no Montreal flights are on there yet, so I highly soubt the 727 will be used on those routes At the moment the 2 launch routes will be YYC and YVR, LAX and YMX will follow in May. I think I resplied to Slawkos post at the time, stating that the 727 will be ONLY used as a supplemental aircraft INCASE there is a hold up or delay. I'll keep you posted, the next 2 weeks we should start to see some advertising. By the way, the flights are already sold at 70%, that's good!

Any pics of the 320's yet? Email me SVP!!!

The 727's are not going to be owned by Roots/SSV, they are Kelowna Flightcraft planes, formerly of Greyhound, I have a friend who works there and he told me that there are two of them being done up in roots colours...Weather they are just in case planes or not, I am not sure, but I do remember that abour a month ago they were on the YYZ-YUL Sched on the roots website, as well as the GTAA information...I think it was because they were having trouble findind another A320. THis may be why the SSV A320 has been pulled from the line and done up for roots.
