Having spent the day spotting, photographing, and getting sunburned at IAH, I noticed a lot of new construction since my last visit. I know Terminal E is under construction as well as lengthening a runway(s). Now is Terminal E the area that is under construction across from Terminal D or is it somewhere else? Also, looking out past gate Terminal D Gate 12 there seems to be a lot of construction and clearing going on. What is this going to be?

The clearing of the forest on the north end is for the construction of runway 9L/27R.
when I was in Houston a few weeks ago I didn't notice any construction where E should be, but then I could have easily missed that from the airport shuttle van. Is the new concourse on the north side of Terminal A done yet... it looked to be finished, at least from the outside.

The new part of Terminal A is finished as far as I could tell. I flew out of there on American when I went to ORD last summer. I believe that American uses most if not all of it.

Construction of Terminal E is occuring south of Terminal D. If you stand in the parking lot of Terminal D, and turn so your back is facing the Terminal D building, you will see the Terminal E spot.
Reconstruction of the north side of Terminal A has been done for over a year. It looks really nice inside the new part of A. I think they will be redoing the rest of A soon.

Reconstruction of the SOUTH side of Terminal A is finished. The Northside is what is being worked on presently.

Okay, just a couple of small corrections to previous posts. DesertJets is right, the construction and tree clearing you saw north of Terminal D was most likely the new runway (which will be 8L/26R as opposed to 9L/27R). However, depending on your vantage point, which you said was looking past gate D-12, it could be construction for the new cargo area. It is supposed to be located between the threshholds of the current Runway 26L and the future 26R. The new cargo area and its respective cargo buildings are supposed to have the capacity to handle 20 widebodies simultaneously, so it is no small project. Like I said, that depends on whether you were looking north or west.
As for Terminal A, like Drerx7 said, the south side has been completed for about a year and a half, and the north side is presently under construction. It is in the final construction phase, with some jetways already in place, and it should be done sometime in the next few months.
The area that will be Terminal E is undergoing ground clearing. It will be south of the present Terminal D, and will open initially for domestic operations in 2003. However, until the new FIS (Federal Inspection Services) building is completed in 2004 it will solely be used for CO domestic ops. Terminal E will have two piers and about 20 gates, and will be solely used by CO and COEX (and perhaps their alliance partners, I'm not sure) for international services starting in 2004.

Sorry , as a correction to my previous post, I should have said that depends on whether you were looking north or east when referring to the new cargo area.

Hey Drerx
On the terminal A construction, I was referring to the area where American Airlines now is, not the entire terminal.
