Well i have just now become a member of a.net and this is my first topic...pardon me for any misspelling.
Although i live in Portugal....i spent most of my childhood in Angola and still go there many times a year...and although i have now been flying tap for a while i always used taag and it was always a great experience to fly with them even though it is not an amazing service no matter what class you fly.
I know this has been sometimes debated before but still i would like to have a conclusion what what exactly happened and what is happening now.
So first off...why did taag get banned from the EU...i have hear that their 777 manuals where in english...that the EU comity said they fly overweight airplanes...and the list goes on regarding all the rumors.
No 2...i know they are now flying their 777 to jo'burg occasionally and to dubai which doesn't even have scheduled flights, by the way, i don't know if you know of this ridiculous story, and this is true...on taag's first flight to Dubai....the plane took off with no clearance to overfly any of the countries it had to...this told to me by a dt pilot
no 3....Why not get etops to fly to IAH or even to fly to Brazil
Finally what are they doing to rectify this problem besides the euroatlantic deal which i don't even know where exactly it stands
Once again i know this has been debated before....but i would like to know about how it is today

How is Angola? Is it worth visiting? Any tourism?

I read in another thread that there were some wight/balance issues with TAAG, so perhaps this is what you were referring to. I don't think anyone besides TAAG and the EU knows exactly why they were banned. I'm assuming it's related to maintenance as their fleet is brand-new.

TAAG currently has 3 777's (D2-TEB, D2-TEE, and D2-TEB) and they are currently being flown from LAD to DXB and JNB as you said.
LAD-DXB is flown twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.
I don't think TAAG is capable of getting ETOPS certification if they are banned from flying to Europe lol.

They appear to be doing absolutely nothing. The Euroatlantic deal fell through, for some reason, therefore, a South African 747 flies TAAG's daily LAD-LIS and an AF A330 flies TAAG's 1x weekly LAD-CDG
Anyway, just thought I would help answer some questions!
I heard some rumors that they would let anyone else then TAP fly into Angola and therefore they made some pressure on them o allow others too. Lufthansa and Air France are flying there too now.
Well they use the 74D to GIG so need for ETOPS on this route.

I know a guy who lived there for a while and he said that the worst thing is corruption there. So bad that even the Chinese who worked with him were astonished.

Well it has a lot of natural beauty....but most people that go there it's more for work than for any other reason..plus right now with elections going on i hear most foreigners are leaving because of fear

I don't know for how long the saa 744 is going to be flying that route because i think all were sold to transaero....as for the af....i think it's actually a 77W every tuesday
Good thing you brought up the dt maintenance because i don't really know who is doing maintenance on those planes....on the 743 af did it after i think saa did and now i have no idea
thanks

AF does fly a 77W between CDG and LAD (AF928), however, that flight operates on Monday. This flight is marketed as an AF flight. In addition to that flight, AF flies an A330 every Tuesday, which is sold as DT621. I believe DT and AF have some kind of wet lease agreement.

Its a bllody shame TAAG has 3 gorgeous 777 and they can't fly them to Portugal and the EU. An airlie needing three extra 777 should lease them or buy them, Delta would be a good one to lease the trio of 777 in Luanda.

Quoting LipeGIG (Reply 7): Correct, and they will increase frequencies next week. LAD-GIG will become 5x weekly.
And aren't there plans to add another destination in Brazil via GIG?

DL's fleet is mostly rr...except for the lr's....so i think before DL, Co would be a top candidate..plus they could use 'em

Delta's 77L's are GE 90 powered, as are al 77L's. Wether 77E or 77L with GE90 engines, to teh mechanic they are 99% the same.

DXB is scheduled, as MHTripple7 already correctly stated. This is directly from Amadeus:

Like i said all they T7 are RR except for the 77L....and btw are their 77L powered by 110B or 115B ?.....And i wasn´t sure about how similar both those Ge engines really on what concerns maintenance issues so thank you

Despite the engine issue, would any US airlines (CO or DL) really want to lease these 777's? TAAG's 777's have a a three-class configuration and the Y class is configured as 3-4-3. Wouldn't it be kind of difficult to have like 1 777 out of the whole fleet flying with a completely different configuration?

At the last thread that discussed TAAG Angola's 777s a conclusion could not be reached as to whether the lessor would search for a new operator of one of the birds (it was in the U.S. if I am not mistaken). AM is probably considering adding more widebodies to its fleet, so a TAAG bird would be a great addition for AM. Does anybody have newer, more specific information on this regard?
