Hey guys
I had posted a thread a few weeks ago about the KLM MD-11's and their plans for refurbishment. Well i flew KLM 872 from DEL-AMS a week ago and i must say, the aircraft looks very new and refurbished, but yet it didnt have the new IFE or anything.
I took a few pictures, which i am posting.
Anyways, the backs of economy had the place for the PTV's but there were no ptv's but as i mentioned, the interiors were very clean and nice.
So was this PH-KCB of mine refurbished?
Here are my pics:

Fellow member HB-IWC knows everything about this. I don't know much about the KL refurbishments but I was under the impression all their MD11s have been refurbished by now. I remember that part of the refurbishment was painted clouds on the walls in the lavatories to give a better feeling of flight. I don't know what the status of that is but if you have seen that in the lavatories than you probably have been in a refurbished MD11.

Well the aircraft has definitely been refurbished as far as new seats and the change to a 3-3-3 layout... whether this is "finished" with regard to PTVs or lack of, I do not know...

PH-KCB in that picture has an intermediate cabin. It has the new layout with a 3-3-3 configuration and just 24 WBC seats, but it does not yet have the complete cabin retrofit, which includes PTVs in all seats.

Quoting PureKiwi (Reply 11): This is off topic but does anyone know why the girl in the aisle seat is facing backwards?
1. Her tray table does not open and she is eating her breakfast/lunch/dinner? (I'm joking of course)
2. She has a baby and is changing diapers?
3. She is kneeling and looking for something in her bag on the seat?
4. The tray table is too small for her laptop so she put it on her seat and is working on her trip report for A.net

5. She is a Muslim, and thus facing East for prayer.

Quoting Afterburner (Reply 15): While traveling on airplanes, buses, cars, or trains Muslims don't have to face toward Mecca to pray.
Never knew that. I always thought they did, and here's an example:

there are a lot of arguments about this topic, some beleive that they should, some beleive that they don't have to. on recent flights i started seeing those compasses, but in the past when they were not shown, i remember my grandmother flying with us to the UK, she prayed in her seat and didn't face mecca

I think this could be the topic of choice for this thread. I was thinking "ah, I wonder if that is more comfortable to do "something". Not sure what the something is though. I'm always looking for new ways to sleep on planes!
