Just about to start this topic myself...another crash with double-digit fatalities. The fourth one in just a few days.  Sad

Just with a quick google search it looks like Aero Ruta Maya operates several Cessna Grand Caravans. Fourteen people involved sounds like a number that a Caravan could have been carrying.

The King Air crash makes it the fourth, as discussed in this thread:

Reply 1 which started this exchange referred to 4 recent accidents with double-digit fatalities. The gear-collapse incident in your second link above had no injuries never mind fatalities.

No, my reply stated that this was the fourth, not that there were "four recent ones."

1st - Spanair in Madrid, 154 fatalities
2nd - King Air in Utah, 10 fatalities
3rd - Itek Air in Kyrgyzstan, 71+ fatalities
4th - Aero Ruta Maya in Guatemala, 10 fatalities

Terrible week for aviation. RIP to all the victims.

I have been to El Estor three times. It is located on Lake Isabel. To get there we usually took the daily boat (about 2 hours) from Mariscos. The town has a large indigenous population. The area is in the north/eastern part of Guatemala on the way to Livingston and Rio Dulce. I do not remember an airport there. There was a military base there, maybe there was an airstrip?

from reading the article,

It looks like there are 4 passengers in the hospital...

was a dual crew, reported an engine failure, tried to land in some sort of pasture or orchard, hit a ravine or ditch, causing the wing to hit the ground, caused a fire and the plane exploded.

That Angle Flight last week into BOS makes 5 reported crashes.

Sad to say, some months are just horrible. August 1985 saw the Delta L-1011 crash at DFW, the Japan Air Lines 747 that killed 520 (still the worst single plane accident), and the British Airtours 737 that caught fire on the ground killing 55.

It is random, but it seems worse when so many happen in a short period of time.

RIP to all involved.

The fourth one in just a few days.

It's really sad. And a number of those killed this morning in Guatemala were reportedly headed to a rural village... to help build homes for the poor on behalf of a non-profit organization based in Utah.

These tragic aviation accidents often times do seem to come in swarms for some arcane reason, don't they?

Seemingly off-topic, but a similar dynamic appears to affect major seismic events occuring in tectonically unrelated regions of the planet from time to time.
