I have one of those incredibly self-centered questions, but I guess a.net may be one of the best places to get a coherent answer. We will be flying YVR-LAX-MEX-SFO-YVR in early September, on a Lufthansa Miles & More award ticket (economy). YVR-LAX will be on AC, and the three other legs will be on UA. I have in vain tried to find out what our free luggage allowance is going to be. The Miles & More hotline could not provide any information and asked me to call the individual airlines, but also advised me that there is going to be a fee of 15 USD per bag on UA, no matter where I got the ticket from. The AC hotline told me that we are entitled to one (1) free bag up to 50 lbs. per person, without any fee. The UA hotline told me that we can check in up to two (2) bags up to 50 lbs. per person, without any fee whatsoever. Moreover, the lady from UA ensured me that this was true for the entire trip, including the AC leg, since it is an international trip.
So, what am I supposed to believe?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Addendum: This just made me laugh. The official word from the Miles & More website: "8.1. You may carry some Baggage, free of charge, subject to our conditions and limitations, which are mentioned in the Ticket or are available upon request from us or the travel agency which issued the Ticket. The weight of each piece of baggage may not exceed 45 kilograms." So I know that I am entitled to carry SOME baggage.

As long the entire trip is on one ticket you will not be charged a checked bag fee by United for two bags up to 50 pounds. The miles and more hotline is wrong on that count....
AC may have its own policy and procedures, you may have to follow them for the first leg of your journey as you will be checking in/traveling with AC at YVR.
ACs policy is more confusing, as it looks like Aeroplan tickets only give you one however it also says that international segments your allowed two. I would give AC a call back and clarify with them what their policy is.

Ok, I just called AC again and pointed out that this is an international trip with multiple legs on a single ticket. They now agree that our free luggage allowance is 2 times 50 pounds, even on an award ticket. Let's just hope the agent at YVR has the same idea

Well no matter what happens have a great trip and flight....if AC charges you for an extra bag you have a decent case to get it back from them later.
