Arkia, Israel's 2nd largest airline, expends and buy 2 new Embraer 195 jets, with 122 seats each. This will be the first Embraer planes operating by an Israeli airline. Those 2 jets will join Arkia's 2 Boeing B757-300, 4 ATR 72-500 and 4 DHC 7 planes. The new regional jets will be used on the domestic route from Ben Gurion Airport to Eilat, and for flights from the same airport to Europe. It seems like the Israeli Authorities will not allow Arkia to operate those plane from Dov Hoz Airport in Tel Aviv.
The expansion of the airline come while Arkia's main competitor, Israir, is in difficulties: Israir will shut dawn its JFK route in 2 weeks, their A332 will return to the leaser, and according to the Israeli press the airline will cancel this order for 2 new A320 jets, and will sell it's old ATR-42 used now on flights to Eilat.
