Venezuelan airline Venezolana - also known as Rutas Aereas de Venezuela (RAVSA) - has applied with DOT to begin service to Miami.

RAVSA plans to begin 10 weekly flights to Miami - five each to Caracas and Maracaibo - as soon as October 30th.

Great to see another hometown airline here in MIA. Now the usual questions:

1.- Will they use the 732 on the route?

2.- Will FAA give the authorization for the route, regarding that NK is still waiting for they FLL-CCS?

3.- Any info about the schedule?

Cheers

Tavo

According to the info given by Mark, Venezolana is going to use a wet-leased MD-80 from a US company, with 8 business seats and 135 economy seats.

This sound interesting, although I believe they won´t receive any authorization, just like Spirit haven't received theirs...

However, lets wait and see. Any new service to the states, specially to Florida, is good news, since the demand is so high.

It could be the former Aeropostal MD-82 (ex. YV253T, now N392AP).

ugh, hopefully they paint that thing so we could see the real colors at MIA

RAVSA wanted to fly to Miami from the start. I thought they had already applied?

I'm surprised an airline like Avior is flying to Miami instead of Conviasa. Does Chavez not like the idea of Conviasa flying to "el imperio"? It is state owned right?

MIA will get interesting with some more airline variety from Latin america again, Surinam, PAWA Dominicana if they start up (they have a DC9 painted already) and now Venezolana if they are approved.
