Things are looking good at CO .

Continental Airlines Named Best Airline: North America in Skytrax 2008 World Airline Awards

Tuesday September 2, 12:30 pm ET

Continental also awarded Best Cabin Staff: North America

HOUSTON, Sept. 2 /-- Continental Airlines today announced that it was named "Best Airline: North America," in the Skytrax 2008 World Airline Awards. The carrier was also named "Best Cabin Staff: North America".

The award winners were selected in an independent passenger survey that included more than 15 million eligible survey interviews conducted worldwide between August 2007 and June 2008.

Continental Airlines is the world's fifth largest airline. Continental, together with Continental Express and Continental Connection, has more than 3,000 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving 140 domestic and 139 international destinations. More than 550 additional points are served via SkyTeam alliance airlines. With more than 46,000 employees, Continental has hubs serving New York, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, and together with Continental Express, carries approximately 69 million passengers per year.

People keep poking fun of me for being elite with Continental... but stuff like this just solidifies my preference.

Disappointingly, I just yesterday got off of Northwest, having picked them to get me back across the Pond.
They charged me for POTATO CHIPS on a six-hour nonstop domestic leg.
They didn't have movies on a six hour domestic leg.
They didn't have any audio on a six-hour domestic leg.
They left one of my bags in Amsterdam.
They left my other bag in Minneapolis.
So here I am in Anchorage, hungry and with none of my belongings. (Are you feeling sympathy yet? If it helps, my bottom lip is sticking WAY out.  Smile )
Not a great experience.

BUT- I did find that their flight attendants out of Minneapolis were GREAT. The ones out of Detroit (DTW-AMS 747-400) were horrid.

Anyhow, all that to say that I'm glad to hear that CO has won the award, as all my miles are with them. And after yesterday, I'm not particularly upset to see them leave SkyTeam.

Continental Well deserved this award. They have proved to be a superior airline and a role model for all the other airlines in the country!

Good Job Continental!

Why do they poke fun?....because their business first seats don't recline as far as others? Rubbish. Give me a seat cushion full of pins and I'd still rather fly CO vs other carriers. CO reaks of old American style class, a conservative never oberblown approach to customer service. It remains and always will be my carrier of choice.

That's one thing. And, also that narrowbodies across the Atlantic are a known bad idea. Shoot, just ask US, AA, DL, or NW. 757s across the Pond just don't work.

Anyhow, back to basics, keep it up CO!

Is that why they are copying CO and sending Their 75's to Europe?

Well earned CO. Flew them last Friday up to DAY through CLE from MCO (was on DL coming back) and it was easy to see why. For one, they still have "service" in the air. Even though it was small, the sandwich and chips were better than what the other airlines give on a 2 hour flight. It was enough to hold me over till I got to my destination anyway.

I'll miss flying them to get my DL Skymiles when they leave Skyteam soon.  frown

Looking forward to them coming into Star so I can earn and burn on them. I only ever flew them once but it was a good experience DUB-EWR-DUB. They were the only carrier to have PTV's out of DUB at the time.

Any dates being tossed around when the Star conversion for CO might take effect?

I'm also very curious as a loyal OnePass person what changes the FF programs might be in for? Sure hope OnePass is the lead program at least domestically if not worldwide.

Yep, having just flown DL transcon in F roundtrip, I can attest that CO is simply better there, too. DL was not bad, people were nice, service was fine, but there were little touches that made CO superior.

Real linens (not linenized paper)
Salad and soup on transcons (DL just has salad)
Ice Cream Sundae design your own (DL has ice cream in a cup)
Choice of fresh hot bread from a basket (DL just has a hot roll from a bag placed on your tray)

It all adds up to a better experience for the same trip for the same price…

Probably sometime 3rd quarter 2009 is whats has been floated around here and elsewhre, although they are already working on identifying and beginning to implement some of the parts of the UA/CO partnership.

OnePass and Millage Plus both have their pluses and minuses, one of the rumors I heard was that you will be able to use miles from either carrier to upgrade on another ie: UA flight booked on UA ticket stock but you can upgrade using OnePass Miles. Kind of like how UA Systemwide Upgrades are usable on LH. I wonder if ACs Aeroplan is going to be linked into this as well as they will be part of the JV across the Atlantic.

That is fine, just hope the OnePass program will continue to allow members flying on CO the ability to enjoy the current and very liberal complimentary upgrade for Elites (yes hard to get at times) and current "Y" fare upgrades at time of purchase, if available.

But again, congratulations to all the CO employees on yet another outstanding award.

AC does not upgrade using miles, and its certificates are not accepted on other carriers and vice-versa.

Interesting I wonder how they are going to integrate AC into the JV then, one would assume that would mean FF upgrades as well. Guess we will see how it all shakes out.

I don't know that anyone (barring AC) would imagine contesting this. CO has their stuff together. Their employees and management make flying CO a great experience. I cannot wait for them to switch to Star, and hopefully UA will take some cues from them.

People want to whine that their seats in BusFirst arent' tops, but like all airlines, they'll come out with a new seat.

As for the EWR-Europe 757 flights, I don't see what all the whining is about. US, DL, and NW are using them across the atlantic too. They work great for narrow routes, it's better than 3x week service, and CO's are not uncomfortable either. Soon they'll all have PTVs. It also helps them serve a huge number of European destinations with a fairly limited fleet.

They understand they sell a product. Fly CO across an ocean, you get a meal and a PTV. Things like that.

Congrats to CO! So far five years as an elite, far and away the most consistent good service that I have found. Most of my dealings with CO employees have been extremely positive - plus they do lots of little things that make a stressful day (flying somewhere) much more pleasant.
Rewards are well deserved!
