I don't have all the details, but there was a small plane crash outside of Cassville, WI today. Cassville is right up the river from where I go to school, so this hits close to home as Cassville is a popular place for us to do landing practice, but I pray that everyone is okay. I will post updates as I find out more.

I just got back from a meeting on campus here at the University of Dubuque and found out, as you probably noticed if you checked the link, that the small plane was one of our school planes. I personally know both pilots, one was on Flight Team with me and the other was my roommate last year. This is very surreal and I pray that both guys recover. They've been airlifted to UW Madison and are in the ER there. Please join me in wishing the best for both of these guys.

Please pass along best wishes from one NIFA guy to another.

I graduated from UD 7 months ago. I have probably flown that airplane...My prayers are with the pilots and all that know them.
One way, IAH-RTB please! No return ticket required.

Thanks very much, I'll make sure the word gets passed along.

Thanks, Gage. The plane was 597TB, so you probably did fly that plane at some point while you were here. We appreciate all the prayers, the guys are going to need them in the coming days.

Agreed, that was my favorite plane out of our entire fleet. I can't believe what has happened over the past couple days. Are you going to be headed to Dubuque at all while you're off work?

My thoughts go out to the two pilots.
Article says this was a Trinidad. Trinidads have two big gull-wing entry doors, correct? I can't help but wonder if the Trinidad's door design was a factor in the pilots escaping quickly.

That's correct. If you search for N597TB on this site there is a picture of the airplane that crashed, and you can see the door design very well. They are still trying to determine what exactly happened, but right now they think there might have been smoke in the cabin and they tried to divert but didn't quite make it. I'll keep updating the post as I gather more information.

I'm actually thinking of coming up to Dubuque this weekend. Not sure if I'll drive or just jumpseat to ORD or MSP and then over to DBQ.

Well if you make it over let me know, it's been a while. And thanks for the picture, I tried to add that to the original post but it never showed up.
