The photo in the background, does that change at different times because I see it's been taken from Flickr and to be honest there are much better photos of London on Flickr that they could of used!
Not that it matters because is there meant to be that much black, this is what I see:
The rest of the site is still in the old design so it just looks like a mess really.

Really strange choice of colours - bmi company colours are blue - so why a black website?? The last website was quite nice, so why the need to change?
I wonder if its a star alliance thing, will all star alliance carriers be adopting a similar looking website?
Quoting Myt332 (Reply 4): The background image of London is also very low res and a very poor effort in my opinion.
the image needs to be fairly low res in order to download quickly. The image in question has been taken from Flikr, as can be seen by the attribution at the bottom. the picture is released under the Creative Commons license, so bmi probably paid nothing to use the image.
I wonder if the guy knows his image is now the background of bmis new website?
What about Ryanair.com? As Jay S. of IdeasWorks rightly said:
From a pure design perspective, the website also violates conventional wisdom by breaking a long list of accepted design rules:
Be consistent with colors and fonts.
Use plenty of white space.
Don't make pages too long - users don't like to scroll down too far.
Carefully select color.
Keep sufficient contrast between the text and background.
Use fonts that are appropriate to your content.
Don't overuse flashing and animated graphics.
And yet, for all its design flaws, Ryanair.com seems to deliver on a golden rule of e-commerce - - to generate sales. Ryanair has been hugely successful in its pursuit of ever increasing ancillary revenue levels.
"Everyone writing for the Telegraph knows that the way to grab eyeballs is with Ryanair and/or sex."
