I was supposed to fly out on this flight today and just as I arrived at the airport (about 1 hour before sked departure), I got a call on my mobile phone that the flight was cancelled.
I thought it might have something to do with Tropical Storm Hanna being up in the NYC area, but it seems like other AA flights are operating into NYC this afternoon/evening.

Current NYC delays from the FAA
JFK: 1h 15 mins
LGA: 2h 45 mins
EWR: 59 mins
however the most recent news report said delays upto 4 hours at JFK.... it's been coming down pretty hard in the city... I'd imagine things are rather hectic..

Thanks for the info HPAEAA. Yeah, I'm aware of the bad weather, but it looks like most if not all of the other AA MIA-NYC flights operated today - perhaps a bit late, but operated nonetheless.
Well, anyway... they offered to get me to Boston (ummmm, no thanks), so I just pushed off the trip to Monday instead.

Sabre says it was canceled because of "Hurricane Hanna." Of course, Hanna was just a tropical storm, but nonetheless, it affected some flights.
I checked the other flights today. The one before you left and arrived on-time. The flight after yours left 15 mins. late due to ATC and arrived at JFK 29 mins. late. The flight after that was scheduled to land at JFK at 10:30pm and is now estimated at 12:21am due to ATC. The flight after that is scheduled to arrive at 11:59pm and is now estimated in at 12:43am due to ATC.
I checked to see if maybe your inbound equipment was the cause, but that plane made it in from JFK on-time. With weather delays/cancellations, it doesn't mean the weather has to be so bad the plane can't takeoff or land, but often times something has got to give as things begin to back-up, and unfortunately today that meant your flight had to go. It sucks, that's for sure.
There were numerous other cancellations both inbound and outbound from New York today.

Thanks QQflyboy. I seem to have bad luck with that flight (the 767-200 MIA-JFK flight). It's been cancelled on me 3 times in the past year!
Well, I'm booked on the same flight for Monday... and hoping the plane is equipped with the new inflight internet service - really excited to try it out!

It's very possible that due to the ATC issues that the line-up needed to be "thinned" and your flight was the "sacrificial lamb". As I understand it when similar weather issues strike ORD, ATC forces the carriers to thin (selective cancellations) in an effort to maintain some sort of manageable schedule under the circumstances.

All the 762s have the GoGo wifi service so you should be able to try it out.

I'm really looking forward to it - keeping my fingers crossed that the flight will actually operate on Monday!

One last question.... since the 767-200 is such an oddball down here at MIA, and it did operate JFK-MIA on Saturday, where did it go after that?

The a/c remained in MIA overnight and operated flight 1168 MIA-JFK today. Flight 1165, the 767-200 from JFK to MIA today, canceled due to "Hurricane Hanna." Although that may seem odd, since the equipment got stuck in MIA yesterday because of the storm, any subsequent cancellations as a result of that a/c being out of place can be blamed on Hanna.

Interesting. So they cancelled the morning run down to MIA from JFK this morning and left all those passengers booked on it to take an alternate flight just because they had to find a way to get the 762 that was stuck in MIA overnight back to JFK today.

When you are running an airline and you cancel a flight, you always have to "balance" the equipment when there is a cancellation.
You can either cancel back to where the airplane is, or you have to ferry the airplane empty to its next assignment. Typically airlines will look to "balance" with the least amount of disruption and least cost.

Word to the wise...DO NOT TURN COMPUTER OFF WITHOUT LOGGING OUT OF GOGO....
Otherwise it's ok..if you do turn off computer and do not log out of gogo...you will be screwed as I was....GOGO gave me my money back and AA wrote me a letter of apology.
