Just saw this on the CID airport website (www.crairport.org):
"Get Ready for our 13th Non-Stop Destination!!!
The Eastern Iowa Airport will announce its newest non-stop Sept. 9. This will be the 13th non-stop city offered out of CID: Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix/Mesa, St. Louis and ??? Stay tuned! "
I am wondering what it could be.
Perhaps maybe G4 to PIE or FLL?
UA to IAD? I know they have been trying to link CID to the DCA area. Maybe AAEagle to DCA? AA is very strong here.
Or maybe NW to MEM?
My guess would be an existing airline announcing a new destination rather than a new airline completely, but I guess we will find out Tuesday.

Quoting Spinkid (Reply 1): Maybe Direct Air to Myrtle Beach
Never thought about that. I guess they have announced a few midwestern cities to Florida recently. Maybe a PIE or PGD flight could be announced?
I am still thinking though an exisiting airline on a new route. CID is a pretty high yield market. The airport commissioner has done a real good job of getting service to high O/D cities. We just got LGA on AA, and G4 to the PHX-area and I know a flight to Washington DC was high on the priority list. UA is fairly strong here so a flight to the IAD hub wouldn't surprise me, or maybe even AA or NW to DCA.
all in all, good to see expansion in a smaller/medium sized market in light of the industry's state right now

I am just amazed at the Market CID can provide in Illinois.
Being down South here, at MWA we get nothing! Hmmpf! I'd love to have the service CID has.

I remember there was an article discussed here on A.net a month or so ago in which UA was said to be looking more at smaller markets as their future growth-area domestically. Maybe they are showing that to be the case.
In any case, it's wonderful to see ANYTHING positive (adding service/freq/routes) being announced these days -- particularly in September! (Speaking of that -- given the time of year -- I would tend to think a warm-weather destination would have the higher probability of happening.)
So I guess I would bet on either UA to IAD or somebody to Florida.

Good For CID. I am amazed to see how nice and how much CID has in service. CID is doing extremely well. I am absolutely amazed why FSD doesnt get nearly as much interest as CID but CID is a very attractive market im guessing.

Maybe I'm reading into this way too much...but the cities are all alphabetical, and the ???s are at the end...so I'd put my money on either Roswell, NM, or Washington D.C...

Last time I checked "R" comes before "S", so Roswell wouldn't fit your alphabetical theory.

Another thread is saying AirTran is announcing AZO tomorrow, and that possibly they will announce more midwestern stations. I think CID would be a long shot though since we are A)to get a new destination and B) already have ATL and Orlando, unless they throw BWI in the mix for the "13th destination". C) We would be too close to their existing MLI station.
I would really like to see UA to IAD, not only is it a built in O/D market to the DC area it also allows pax to bypass messy ORD for connections out east and southeast. I would also like to see PIE on G4 as I have relatives in the Tampa area and it would be great to fly down there non stop!

Wow...show's how tired I was when I posted that! In my defense...I was 100% joking about Roswell, and last I checked, U came after Q...but Qantas shows us that aviation disregards the traditional rules which apply to the ABCs...!

Too bad they arent in GRR. I dont think FL will go to CID< way too close to MLI, unless they close MLI and try to get both MLI and DSM traffic at CID

Or why not keep MLI and go into DSM attracting CID passengers as well as all those central Iowans who drive 2 hours to MCI or OMA for cheaper fares on Southwest.

The original AirTran tried DSM way back in the day, When I was little I remember flying on a 732 MLI-DSM-MCO.
However, things are a lot different now, and so is AirTran... I wouldn't be too shocked if they didn't decide to try it again someday.. oil is down to $102!!!
