While we're hoping Ike avoids the Texas Gulf Coast, any idea where IAH will begin parking planes come Friday if the storm track continues for the upper Texas coast? DFW, ALB or OKC?

I know a TCX flight either to or from Cuba has been diverted and there is talk of it coming here to Cyprus, but I don't know what's going on yet. Does anyone know anymore info on it?

Quoting RonmacIAH (Thread starter):
DFW, ALB or OKC?

Is that Albany N.Y. or some other TX/OK/AR city.

Key West is the only deep south city in the U.S. with cancelled flts that I can find.

If Ike keeps on heading SW along the lower Texas coast, IAH will likely see winds out of the east and/or southeast, and other than rain bands moving though off and on, crosswinds on 08L/R and 09 shouldn';t be an issue, and 14L is also available.

Don't think ALB will see any birds, but ABI could, theoretically....  Wink

I am not sure what impact IAH will have, but we have been watching the forecasts closely here in AUS, and if the more accurate models (The GFS, GFDL, and ECMF) are correct, Ike will arrive in Port Lavaca at 8 am Saturday morning, as will tropical storm force winds (39-74mph) here in AUS, and they WOULD be crosswinds. We only have 17/35 available for commercial right now, and the center of Ike is supposed to come right over Austin, as a very strong TS or a cat 1 hurricane still...could get very interesting.

Latest local forecast here for AUS is winds of 70 mph sustained throughout the day Saturday with gusts up to 90 mph! Landfall is expected between Corpus Christi and Victoria around midnight Friday as a strong category 3 or weak category 4 hurricane. IAH seems to be able to breathe a little easier, but AUS and SAT will have their hands full! I'm guessing last flight out of AUS for United on Friday will be the 5:26pm ORD departure (JUST A GUESS!!!)

Latest update for AUS...

Tropical storm force winds arrive overnight Friday night as Ike makes landfall near Corpus Christi, followed by hurricane force winds (in AUS) between 2pm and 9pm Saturday...guess I won"t be working!

Pssst....don't tell anyone but it is 15's now! Keep it a secret as I still want to call it 14! The ole ILS 15R will do fine for some winds that is for sure. Don't ya hate when that happens!  Smile

I think you'll find the CO aircraft dashing for ELP again like when Rita was rumbling around.....maybe some to ABQ as well, but for the most part they'll certainly move things out of the path of expected track one this thing is inland sometime Saturday as it looks now.

CLL Tower is supposed to expand operations to 24 hrs for a few days as CLL is going to be used as a "shuttle point" for first responders and equipment when needed.

To truly be on the safe side I would have re-routed yourself PHX-CLE-PHL instead of through IAH... just my suggestion...

CO is planning on moving their downtown SOCC to the emergency back up location beginning on Friday morning in anticipation of Ike.

I don't know what is planned yet for the IAH Hub.

Appreciate the updates. Ike now looks like it's tracking a little further east which is not good for IAH area. I'm scheduled to fly out Sunday at 9a on CO to ATL but I'll be amazed if that happens.

Wanted to reroute on Saturday because I had to be in PHL for cousin's dinner and was surprising her for her birthday, but with airline reduced schedules on Saturdays, the CLE connection gets in too late. So, moved whole trip up a day and I forgot what was issue with Fri CLE flight, I think it didn't have two F seats which we are booked into, and tried to get the agent to find the EWR connections but she kept on saying that EWR-PHL doesn't start until next month and I was trying to ask her to pull the train connections but that reverted back to, "no sir, Continental Connection begins those flights next month," and I just couldn't keep that one up, so I was fine with 7am on Fri instead of the 5am on Sat to IAH. Either of those departures lead to long night of driving before that, having to leave PRC and head up to FLG to get little brother, then drive from FLG to PHX, park, checkin, and finally let it all begin.

CO has been changing some friends flights that are flying from IAH on Friday, first was a Friday evening IAH-PDX flgiht they just notified the pax and told them they've moved them to a Friday morning flight and another going IAH-DCA on Friday afternoon has been moved to a Friday morning flight as well.

Not sure if these are added sections or what! Neither is a OnePass Elite so just good customer service again from CO.

Latest stuff I have seen is now saying outter bands of Ike with Tropical Storm force winds coming across coast around 8 AM CDT Friday... with Hurricane force winds Friday evening and eye landfall around 4 to 6 AM CDT Saturday... Houston projecting 6-12 in. rain minimum... Galveston a 7-12' storm surge if not more....

I'm scheduled to start a 4 day trip Friday... hopefully I wont have to and the planes will be long evacuated before that...

Looks like no Southwest or Continental traffic to IAH or HOU on Sunday

Quote:
THE LATEST AT 8:10p: There will be no commercial air service from Continental Airlines or Southwest Airlines at Houston's two airports on Sunday. Houston Airport System spokeswoman Marlene McClinton said both George Bush Intercontinental and Houston Hobby suffered major power outages during Hurricane Ike. Other carriers were still evaluating the possibility of restoring some service on Sunday. McClinton suggested that passengers check with their airline before traveling. "We did operate for corporate and general aviation traffic today at Hobby," McClinton said, noting that the airport runway lights were operational, but the terminals remained in the dark. "At IAH there is some power in some areas, but it is still a challenge for us," she said. (KHOU-TV)

Of course one huge problem is all the staff/ employees trapped at home without power - with roads clogged with debris and no way to get to work at the airport.

Both of BA's LHR-IAH Saturday flights, BA195 and BA197, were cancelled. Instead the two 772s that should have flown to Houston flew to Orlando to collect British holidaymakers stranded when XL Airways went out of business.
