Monarch to replace XL Airlines to Tobago..

Has Monarch confirmed as yet whether they will be doing the same to other islands which have lost XL?
Also, will Monarch sell flights along the same lines as XL, i.e 1 week or 2 week trip limitations? ...or will someone be able to book one ways or longer trips with Monarch? XL were very inflexible.

Great news...3 down 2 to go!! I hope it's a little more differentiated than the other two....one tail was supposed to be Caribbean Aquatic so I hope it gets a cool new look!

Anyone has a timetable for the repainting of -WIZ, -WIT and -SLU
...........
Non-aviation related- how was Usain Bolt rewarded? The T&T 4x100 relay team each got TT$750,000 (excluding Richaerd Thompson), while Thompson got TT$1 million.

Will be interesting for comparison to see how the Jamaican sprinters were rewarded, i.e monetary rewards or other things. I know there are many more athletes in Jamaica to reward, but they have done sooo well, i'd be suprised if the rewards weren't lavish!

.................
Once again, thanks to HummingBird for starting us up!
Also- does anyone know how to get the Mods/ Admins to change the mouseover-code BW from 'BWIA-Trinidad and Tobago', to 'Caribbean Airlines- Trinidad and Tobago'?

Even though our athlete (Churandy Martina) was disqualified (silver medal) he was rewarded a new house by our government.

It does effect the Caribbean indirectly as two 737-900ER's of Futura flew a lot of European destinations for Arkefly on a lease agreement. Arkefly now has a problem with their European scheduling which in turn effects their longhaul flights, including the Caribbean because they now have to use their small fleet of 763's to Europe and the Caribbean. Flights to AUA/CUR for example are experiencing big delays since that bankrupcy.

I have been following the news and I am sure that a ruling will be made soon. But am elated that the Caribbean was awesome at the Olympic.

BBC has a report on Bolt arrival in KIN on VS.....

Wish if there were more pics of the 747

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7605842.stm

Bolt said ....""I'm just happy to be home. I just glad," Bolt told journalists from 17 media houses, including news crews from BBC TV, London Times, French TV1 and Le Quippe (newspaper) also out of France, who were accredited to witness his long awaited return to the island.

Only airlines that are able to provide additional seats to the island to benefit the Tourism Industry...

Quoting Caribbean484 (Reply 6):
I was thinking more of along the lines of VS and/or NK maybe, and DL?

Over the last year there has been a large influx of Canadian and European carriers to Jamaica...The increase of jet fuel was unexpected and many carriers had planned to withdraw their services....Closed door meetings were held with these carriers who were given small concessions in order for them to continue services to Jamaica...If you were to look at the statistics, Jamaica is the only tourist dependent country that have not experienced large withdrawal of air services....Some airlines may reduce frequencies and capacity, but will continue to provide year round service....The AA deal should have been an under the table discussion, however it was leaked to the media...

VS has a codeshare with JM...They are not categorised as a leisure carrier...

NK nearly fell into the trap....

As you can see there has not been as public outcry from other carriers to Jamaica.....

With the opening of The Palmyra Resort...There are trying to attract more upscale clients...

I will not say who but two major carriers beside AA have been adding flights to Jamaica.....The Canadian market e.g YUL was once seasonal is now year round thanks to WS...If you want an idea, look at the airlines that have been adding winter flights and capacities...

I also heard the government and the Spanish hotels have worked closely with the European Charters....Gone are the days of spotting when Thurs, Sat and Sun were popular days for European charters....Currently MBJ sees an average 2-3 flights per day...

Oh, that's great news....I didn't notice though so I'll definitely have a look next day I go out to work.

I'm actually on the 737 now, so I don't have that "intimate connection" with the Dash8s anymore...although I miss them dearly. Dash8s for me is like that first girlfriend, if you know what I mean.

I do believe WIZ should be next, and seeing as WIT just needs a flash of white and stickers...I don't see why the entire Dash8 fleet shouldn't be fully refurbished by Christmas  Smile

Would be nice to finally have a fully uniformed fleet eh?

Hopefully, we'll see the 738 operating to YYZ, via GND and GEO by Christmas time. As for SLU, it will be interesting to see how the route is operated. Maybe a POS-SLU-BGI-SLU-POS routing will come to fruition.

Yes Jamaica has not seen a real decrease in service from Carriers, I can only assume that AC and DL are the airlines that were being paid. But I have to say that under the table discussions with public money is and can be considered corruption, since the full contents of the deal is not know. If the Gov't had been upfront a long time ago then it would be ok, this may lead to more scrutinising of other deals with airlines operating in Jamaica.

He did receive a BMW from Puma for his birthday gift. As expected many companies worldwide are lining up to use him for endorsement contracts including Audi. Also read of two internet companies in the UK that want to sign him up for endorsement contracts.

I know that the POS business market was going good but I thought that with the additional rooms that came into the market with the opening of the Hyatt that supply was adequate given the demand! POS has pretty impressive line up of international brands with the Crowne Plaza & Holiday Inn Express Hilton, Marriott and the Hyatt.

There is still a need for more hotels in POS; especially given the fact that next year POS will host numerous meetings and events. The Hilton recently laid off staff and is simply not competitive with the new Hyatt. The Holiday Inn Express is not in Port-of-Spain, and the Courtyard by Marriott is too small. Also, GND will soon have a Crowne Plaza resort.
