US Federal agents have busted up a widespread smuggling ring of American Airlines ramp agents and food service employees.

They were using their security access privileges to gain access to the departing/arriving aircraft to make exchanges with couriers before the couriers encountered any security checkpoints.

So far, the sting has netted 55 arrests, mostly in Miami.

In one example, agents were able to use the ring to transport hand grenades and guns (they had been disabled by the agents first) in a briefcase with the fake cocaine used in the sting.
