How long has it been since that happened last? Must be a few years! Maybe the downturn is now slowly starting to hit the OEM's. Could also be an after Farnborough fluke of course... we'll have to wait and see...
Well, it was holiday in Europa last month And, after Le Bourget or Farnborough, Airbus usually has some quiet months. Things will pick up a bit in Q4, although it's gonna be tough to reach 1000+ orders this year.

It's been a tough, tough summer. Even though airlines need newer planes, most were worried about BK and not buying them.
If oil stays at $100-105 or lower, expect some fall orders.
Of all the things to worry about... the Wookie has no pants.

There's still a couple of quite large pendings for Airbus - EY and the 60 extra wides for EK that should help the end of year total.
What are the current, and expected 'normal' production rates of both the A380 and 747/748?
If the rate was about 2 per month, the 747 would have almost 5 years of production and the A380 would have 7 3/4 years of production. Not very much for either manufacturer and the rate at which orders seem to be trickling in is not very reassuring.

Quoting AA1818 (Reply 8): I thought the 767 line was closing? I didn't know Boeing was still taking orders...
They'll keep building it whilst people order it - it's been trickling along for a while hoping for the tanker order - so it'll be interesting as to what happens now that this has been delayed for probably a year.
As for possible A380 orders, there's a long rumoured order from ANA that's a strong possibility (10 I think?) and other than that fainter possibilities of the confirmation of the Groupo Marsans LoI from last year (4) and maybe a topup for LH. You never know though EK will probably order another 30!

I thought it was decided that Airbus/ North Grumman were the successful bidders? I know Boeing appealled, but I just assumed it would stay as is. It's taken what 4 years so far since the first round of tainted bidding??- I guess the US doesn't really need/ want new tankers!!

Makes sense I guess especially since the 787 seems to be indefinitely delayed.

EK is perhaps the most likely of any carrier to order more despite accounting for about 30% of the orders already!! hehehe

There's loads of threads with more detail in the Millitary Av and Spac section but to summarise:
NG / EADS won and started to build the first of the test planes
Boeing squealed and protested on 100 (!) counts
The US Gov panel upheld 7 of Boeings complaints (process not being exactly fair)
The contest was reopened with new tenders requested by October this year
The contest was then cancelled as a decision was unlikely to be made before the change in President (it was bottled in my opinion......)

Currently no tanker order for either bidder!
Thanks so much for that update. I'm the offerings for both sides of this are about equal in ability, but I do hope we can add the hundereds of 767s (or 777s) to Boeing's order count for next year!
