As of October 29 – Air Union ( Kras Air, Domodedovo Air, Samara, Omskavia, Sibaviatrans) to seize operations.

According to Russian website gazeta.ru Air Union was not able to “obtain” new slots for winter schedules and is going to cease its operations by October 29 by the end of summer schedule.

Air Union has been having major financial problems, got kicked out of Domodedovo Airport and now Atlant Soyz will be purchasing its liquidating assets of Kras Air, Domodedovo Air, Samara.

Very bad news for Star Alliance, particularly for LH and OS as they have established good code sharing network within Russia.

here is the article http://www.gazeta.ru/travel/2008/09/10_n_2835334.shtml

Atlant Soyz is owned by Moscow Government and they are going to buy Air Union's major assets

They got kicked out of Domodedovo but were able negotiate a deal for couple of months and fly out of Vnukovo

A German aviation magazine reports something completely different. They say Air Union will be merged with Atlant-Soyuz, Rossija, KMV, Vladivostok Avia and Oreburg Avia, and that the Kremlin will inject 20 billion roubles into the new company. Link (sorry, German only):

Flight international says basically the same thing:

Exceptions confirm the rule.

That makes sence but it will not be a merger but liquidation/buyout at first and only between Air Unioon and Atlant Soyuz.

Rest of the companies will merge much later

This is also what I know, that their COO said the airline will cease operations by the end of the month.

With the need of Star for a major russian member (or at least the need of the european ones for an extensive codeshare network), I think the only available option now is Transaero.
